Isn't this sport for rich folks only? Kinda like equestrian. Whats wrong with cheap sports like baseball and soccer
I fenced competitively from Junior high through university. Love it, fantastic sport. I'm happy to answer what I can, but I've been out of it for a lot of years now.
Fencing is as much of a sport as golf.
Who's fault is that
this is definitely a rich people thing
I'm sure getting started with any club is good, and then if you're kid wants to compete, they could move to a different club. Tournaments are really fun and a great competitive experience, but I get that's not everyone's cup of tea
The good news. Is your kid is going to be good with a sword to defend from all the ass kickings he’s going to get.

You might also want to consider fox hunting or jousting while you're in the market for old-timey pursuits.
Thought this would be about getting your kids to sell stolen goods.
Rite Way would probably put him to work. Give Jerry Badgley a call
I’ve fenced for a while (foil), and know a few folks from CFC, Gladiators, and Epic. Any of them would be fine for your kid to begin training and practicing the fundamentals. It’s a fun sport - unique, small community, gives a good sweat.
I run a fencing/pentathlon program out of the MNP centre. It's a small community but I wouldn't say any more expensive than soccer/hockey is.
Definitely a unique sport and similar to martial arts where it's an individual effort.
