    Default cough suppressant

I have had a nasty cold for a couple of weeks and have gone through bottles of cough syrup. Anyone have any recommendations. Yes I have tried buckely's doesn't help.

I can't use Cough Syrup with Codeine.

any suggestions...anyone. I have already been to the family Dr. He told me to get Robitussin or Delsym but it hasn't helped either.

    Anyone try that Mucinex DM?

Ya if a cough has lasted that long I would say bronchitis, you probably need antibiotics.

I was at the family Dr last night. I as told that a cold can last 10 - 14 days.

I have never smoked even 1 cigarette nor am I around people that do.

Anyhow...the Dr.'s office was full of the same thing last night. But lots of people can take a codeine cough syrup at night to act as a cough suppressant...I am one of the lucky ones who can't have one drop of codeine of I am vomiting.

Dr told me they actually like to use a cough suppressant with a productive cough ...cause your body is already getting rid of the nasty stuff. But I can't stand the coughing. I am driving everyone insane with coughing.

I may pop into a walk in and see what they say.

    Try chewing Clorophyll gum.

Is it codeine in general or just liquified?
There are cough tablets with the same prescription as the liquids. Perhaps a codeine cough tablet?

I had a really bad cough over Christmas. No cough syrups would work. I stuck a fisherman's friend in my cheek and could sleep for at least 2 hours before it dissolved and I started coughing again (waking me up).

actually most pain meds make me vomit. I am very intolerant to all that stuff.

I once got codeine from the dentist after I moved away from home...we had always used the same pharmacy and I didn't remember I couldn't have it...it was a very bad night.

Well I got a couple of packs...new cough syrup and I will see how my evening goes.

I just hope the coughing ends sometime soon, I tore ligaments and a muscle coughing a few years back.

Heroin works well, but it might give you constipation.

Try taking Cepacol cough drops. They're definitely on the stronger side and tend to create a numbing effect.

Used widely in the hospitals that I've worked in, and as well in the health centre of the company I presently work in DT.

I bought new cough syrup this afternoon, it seems to be helping but the true test will be the night of course.

Yeah I like the cepacol cough drops, I also use Decquacaine they have a local anesthetic with an antibacterial agent.

But still find that at night Halls Strong of Fishermans friend works best for the throat tickle..stops the eyes from watering that is for sure

I've been told by more than one Dr. and pharmasist that cough syrups tend to do very little - if anything. The medicinal ingredients (like pain killers, etc) help the pain, but to actually get rid of a cough there isn't much you can do. If it's congested, then sometimes a syrup might losen the congestion, but that's about it...

And those who are telling you to go to the doctor because it's been too long: I do not agree. My office had most of us hit with colds, and some of them lasted close to a month. It took a long time, but they just ran their course. People using antibiotics too frequently has lead us to have these superbugs, and I never go to the doctor for colds unless they are extremely severe, and last a LONG LONG time.
