Default Why Do Ppl Over-Price Their Honda's?

What's up with some people thinking their Honda's are Ferrari's?

Like in February I came across some guy in Westhill's who was selling his 82 Lude for 5 grand..all it had was rims, paint job and a deck

Its only a rip off if somebody buys it. I really doubt that car sold. Its just the honda hype.

Plus, honda has a hype about it. If you own a civic, you might as well own a Supra, cause thats the hype. Of course this really ownly applies to folks unlike ourselves, who dont understand the true averageness of the civic. Now im not sayin that all civics suck, just most of them. They are the same as Corolla's, Golf's, Sentra's, ETC. These cars suck as well, but they just dont have the hype, so its more generally recognised.

EDIT: i thoght id add, that im talking about these cars in general. Like what is most commonly on the streets (base models).

If the price is really too high, nobody will buy it and the price will eventually come down.

If someone does buy it, then good for both of them.

Complaining on the internet isn't going to get people to lower their asking prices.

In case soemone really wants the car and will pay for it.

You always start with a really high price and take offers. That's how it always is.

Why are you complaining on the net....
if you dont like the price, then offer him something, if its still too high then forget about it and dont buy it.

my buddy just bought a 84 lude for $800. buts it's falling apart.

Well as a buyer your the one who decides if that is what you want. crap I paid $6000 for my 1990 240sx. just needs some touch up paint and a few rust spots fixed and the car is in perfect condition. But if you have a problem with what someone is asking for, look for a different one, its that simple.

Thats a dumb comment. Honda's (contrary to popular belief) are not the shit, and i got another for you as well, the world is round, not flat.

But just read my other posts, i made it clear that though they are Ok cars, they do not live up to the hype when dealing with people who know what they are talking about. A 94 civic is not any better than a 94 golf or a 94 corolla (in general), it just 'got the hype'. BTW, if a honda is an AWSOME car, then pretty much every other import is as well.

lol i dont think its the civc hype, its just general pricing it high for reasons already mentioned. Civics are on the bottom of the food chain of cars or close to it, its really hard for me believe that some people can't see that.

    Perception is reality.

If the general population perceives that Hondas are better cars, then Honda resale prices will be inflated compared to other brands.

I've found that people ask unreasonable prices for some cars because they are trying to get what they've put into them.. I WISH that i could get what i've got into my ride

whenever I see someone asking a brutally inflated price I tell them in a blunt and to the point manner.

It is not necessarily the price in the black book but it is the market value.....I mean if people are willing to pay $20K for a 93 Del Sol (10 years old, modded) then sure why not right??!

What about them old school classic cars? I swear they are like 50 years old but still fetched above original value? lol

hondas hold there value, for example a 1993-94 civic si coupe is going for about 8-10k depending on km....so is a 1993 bmw sedan.....most japanese cars are wicked for resale..and easy to sell....dunno why anyone buys domestic crap

I like and enjoy my 97 civic alot The civic is also canadas #1 selling car ( I think ? ) The next car I buy will also be a honda or a acura, because they are very good vehicles. I do not agree with people asking for too much for a car not worth that, but you don't have to buy it. It's also up to you what car you like, if you don't like the hondas or import cars, then buy an american car.

    Thats my 2 cents

Its because people are willing to pay say 10k+ for cars that are 10years old, that is why

dude, you gotta fill me in on this "hype" you're talkin' 'bout... there's no civic hype, is there? The only hype 'bout civics that I can think of is good resale value, good gas mileage and awesome realiability. If that's the "hype" you're talkin' 'bout then I would say the civic is doin' a damn good job carryin' this "hype" on it's shoulders.

    Its all about supply demand...

if people are willing to pay more (like shadowz said) you'll be able to sell ur car for more..

take a crx for example....they selll anywhere from a grand to close to 10g

I drive older domestic autos because they are very comfortable and reliable. I am 6'5" and I find imports to be very small inside to the point of being uncomfortable. If the Japanese actually made a car that fit an average size man than MAYBE I would consider buying one.

    On second thought I wouldn't.

Elaborate on this very informative and fine post.

Since when was 6' 5" an "average" sized man?
And why wouldn't you consider an import? Seriously

Most imports such as VW, Honda, Toyota will hold a good resale due to its records of reliablity.

If you find the prices too high, why not look into a domestic?

But 5G for a 82 lude is wrong...

Like I said I do find imports to be very small inside compared to what I am used to driving. Granted, I have not sat in every make and model but the ones I have sat in don't have a lot of room compared to what I am used too. I wouldn't buy one for that reason alone. I like big cars not tiny econo boxes. I also think that they are overpriced. Once a vehicle has over 250 000 km I get rid of it (Most of the time). So reliability isn't as much of a consideration for me. People say that imports are much more reliable than domestics which I doubt but if it is true it doesn’t matter to me. Any POS should last 250 000 km if it is properly maintained, so the "extra" reliability of an import is not a consideration for me. Besides, nothing beats the sound of a V-8.

hahaha take a drive down deerfoot...tell me how many imports u see in the side with there hood up...i say 3 domestics today..and if you do see an import , its cause of a flat, probably from a domestic car falling apart.....ohh and if you see a domestic with 250km on it..its probably on its 3rd engine

Ever heard....U GET WHAT U PAY FOR.....

Fair enough. Granted, imports are generally under powered and designed in Japan, which is the rationale for the smaller built cars.

Have you tried an Accord V6 or Camry V6. Not totally sluggish, beautiful vehicles, and lots of room (rivals many of the 6cyl domestic family rides).
