You want an update? Here's your friggin update!

I've just been driving this thing all summer and it has been an absolute treat. Jump in, turn the key, go make M5 noises. I finally wore out my rear tires so obviously had to finish them off for good before replacing them.

I took it to Castrol for drag racing and it did 13.4@103mph, which is good considering a brand new one at sea level does 13.2@108mph (Car and Driver). If I had it at a sea level strip I probably would have beaten magazine times. Also did a trackday on the roadcourse and the thing was a champ. Lacked tire to keep up with some cars out there, but had a blast flogging it on the track anyway. The factory brakes hauled it down from speed nice and consistently over 20 minute sessions. Got compliments from two different people about it being the best sounding car out there that day.

Clutch on this thing has been getting a bit softer lately, I'll be aiming to replace it with something a bit more robust before tucking the car away for winter.

You're the kind of owner every M5 deserves

These are such a great platform, and will be interested to see how the rest of your project goes over time. I remember being in some when they were new, and it's nice to see how well these cars have aged. I drove a friends not too long ago with similar mods suspension wise, and it still well balanced with a nice flat torque curve. It's nowhere near as big as most newer cars, but still felt aware that it's a bigger sedan in parking lots. But then again, most of my daily drivers have been 3 series equivalent or smaller.

That M5 sound is definitely glorious... prefer it to majority of the american V8s.

    Good luck on the build.

    Update time.

Got some paint work done in November. Hood, bumper, fenders. (Hood popped in first pic)

Also picked up a clutch, OS TR2CD. Haven't installed it yet, car is sleeping until spring.

Went with an OS clutch instead of stock replacement because I'm gonna need more torque capacity for THIS

Nah it's really not. I don't want a million horsepower but I do want it to be the fastest car I've ever owned.

As it stands it's slower than my Aristo and both of my turbo D16 Civics.

Does the S/C kit delete those beautiful intake manifold runners?

Nope! Those stay. It does delete the air pump and air injection system though.

Here's what one looks like installed.

Installed some holding power this weekend

Had to get creative and make a special tool. And then make another when I broke the first one.

OS Clutch and flywheel are 14 lbs lighter than stock! Still a 40lb assembly though.
