I bought a 4k movie today thinking that the PS4 would play it and obviously it doesnt. I still haven't experienced a 4k movie at home, is it worth finding a 4k player? If so, what should I look for in one?

I just use my xbox. Works great and the current sales make them quite cheap.

The best bang for the buck is the Sony UBPX 700. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10, and outputs a great picture according to reviews.
It goes on sale for $199.99 at BestBuy on Black Friday. Anything else that has dolby vision and you are looking at waaaaay more money. If your TV doesn't support DV, you can probably get a unit cheaper, but even as a normal 4k blu ray player its pretty highly recommended for the price.
Shit, might as well buy that xbox for that price lolThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
How is it that xBox plays these and the PS4 doesn't? Doesn't sound like that is fair.
its only the new generations of the PS4/xbone that play them. the original releases won't.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
OP. for the cost, just pick upp a one S. We rarely play games on ours, but for the price, you can't beat it. The ability to use streaming apps is also a nice addition.
The PS4 or PS4 Pro will never play a 4K disc, only streaming. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Well I wasn't thinking about it but now feel like picking up that xBox above..especially at the price. Although, I don't think I will ever buy any games for it unless there was something I really wanted to play that's xbox specific.
That's my thought process as well. 8 think for the most part, it's a waste of money for me.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Welllll
1) You said you didn't want another console
2) Xbox doesn't support Dolby Vision EXCEPT on netflix streaming.
If those things don't matter, 100% buy a xbox.
As an Xbox guy through and through, my buddy gave me his PS4 recently as he got the PS4 pro. I don't like having multiple consoles, especially since I am so into the Xbox, but having the PS4 gave me the ability to play the few games I am interested in that I never played before, so if you have an Xbox you may find it the same way, as there may be some games you are interested in but weren't available for PS4, Forza series is a good example if you are into racing games. I have been playing the PS4 for the last 2 months regularly as Uncharted series always looked like I game I would enjoy, so I bought the 3 game remastered of uncharted 1,2,3 and passed those in succession, and now playing Uncharted 4. Once I am done with that I will probably put the PS4 away for a long time until I find another game I would be interested in, but it would have to be a PS4 exclusive as I will continue with the Xbox for any cross-platform game.
So if you just looking for a 4k bluray player, really can't go wrong with the xbox.
Xbox One X will be on-sale $499 for Black Friday.

4K Blurays on Xbox One X are awesome.

You can just download and play them on an Android box. Only 50Gb for a movie.
Well black friday deals made me trade in the PS4 for an XBox One S with battlefield. After trading a couple of games I ended up paying $70. So now i have a 4k player lol
So thanks for the xbox suggestions guys
