Default A meal to impress a group - what would you cook?

Just wondering what YOU have cooked or would cook when you need to feed a group, and want to impress them.
    Say 10+ people.

What's easiest, what's fanciest, what would be a "stretch" for you?

I haven't done it in a long time, but I have a really good Tiramisu that has previously gotten rave reviews.

Anyone who makes a full turkey dinner and doesn't fuck up the bird always looks like a hero too.

Yorkshire pudding with a beef roast. Those puds take technique.

    Whatcha think?

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Fresh pasta in many shapes or fillings, and my 8 hour bolognese. Freshly made pesto seems to blow people's minds.

White lasagna with chicken and rosemary is impossible not to like unless you're lactose intolerant and even then. I can find the recipe later if needed.

Our kale chicken caesar salad is another that never lets us down and is very easy to make. Roasted garlic is the key.

Recently went to a friend's bday and he made brisket on his newly bought egg. By far the best brisket I've ever had, everyone was raving about it.

I made this for company recently. https://www.instagram.com/p/CtoCUmbJ...RlODBiNWFlZA==

It's really good and fairly easy. Certainly not top tier but they all loved. Hell my kids eat it.

I’ve done a brisket, 2 pork butts, and 3 chickens for a large group before (all with a single Webber kettle and chicken was on a gas grill). That was obviously a rather large group… for smaller groups a BLW brisket is always good. Or a whole rib roast (but I like chopping those into rib steaks more)

Stepping away from BBQ, scratch made ravioli, or pizza. Lots of prep time with either though.

I think any full, well thought out meal for 10+ can be impressive… as long as it’s cooked well, and you don’t serve the asparagus stems

Doing things that are ready with little to do to finish the meal is the key.

A delicious meal is impressive. A delicious meal where you look relaxed and are having a drink with everyone instead of looking like a rookie wannabe chef in the kitchen, sweating your bag off? That's way more impressive.

That's why I do something smoked. Usually a shoulder. Can be done early in the day and sit hot in a cooler. Then it's just sides that are prepped and not cooked. Ruth's Chris sweet potatoes. Smokes beans, etc.

It's 2023, just because some people like wood in their mouths doesn't give you the right to judge them.

Ribeye steaks for all to their preferred doneness. No fried rice pls.

But agreed. Whatever you do, do it WELL. I don't give a shit if you give me filet mignon and lobster tails if you cook it poorly or not well organized, making me feel weird and nervous as a guest.

I rather eat a well executed grilled cheese than a ruined expensive steak.

I've done a skewered BBQ'd Mojo Pork marinade on flank steak with a pilaf and vegetables for a group before. I can post the recipe if anyone's interested. One of my favourites - super juicy and fresh.

We usually do roast beef for large groups with a side of roasted or mashed potatoes and some other vegetables. No Yorkshire pudding, that's too fancy for me. Pasta is also pretty easy for large groups with grilled chicken and garlic bread and if there are kids I'll make a batch of fried wings.

I think this is excellent advice. Make something you know you can execute, and make it well without making your guests worried about food poisoning or some other disaster. Kind of in line with Buster's comment about executing without visible stress.

Lamb or chicken curry. Make a big pot of it. Serve with rice (Basmati of course).

Some ppl can't even cook KD properly.

I fiddled around making lobster mac and cheese and got rave reviews on it. It was also my first time making bechamel so that was fun
