I realize i'm extremely lucky, but I got laid off with ample notice, and lined up a new job with the same pay that started right after the old one ended.

I wonder how many people on here genuinely think more than 50% of oil and gas workers have lost their jobs?

Survived at same company, but my job will no longer exist as of September this year so i either have to find something else within the same company or i will be laid off.

Semantics really. More than half likely did. But "layoffs" are much lower than that.

God bless contractors and consultants. Every company I have ins with saw a "workforce reduction" of well over 50% vs the previous years.

I wonder the same thing. This thought came to me earlier in month when I was at a dealership buying a new Jeep. The sales guy that was helping me was not what I would typically expect from a car salesman. Later I found out he previously worked as a drafter for a O&G related company.

Definitely tough but not impossible. I am seeing a lot more jobs posted internally this year compared to last. Doesn't help that i'm also shopping around for a promotion

Either way i'm not losing sleep about it. Our severance is quite good relatively speaking and being in the Retail/Payments space, i'm not entirely tied to O&G so i feel like i won't be unemployed for too long if it came down to it. We'll see though

The sales girl at a furniture store that was helping used to work at a producer in HR too. There are many stories like this.

Also met a cashier at winners who graduated from engineering 2 years ago...

We are doing pipeline inspection for Oil gas and water companies. Does that count as O&G related? Our stock price definetly got affected though. OG related or not they can't layoff 100% of the employees- I am just one of those who luckily survived.

Exactly. It's in every thread about O&G, so it must be true.

    And why exactly is this?

What if a company goes under? You'd better believe 100% are going to be losing their jobs.

Scotia Bank shutdown a data center and moved it to Toronto and layed off 100% of the Calgary staff in November 2016.
