Default Deck Staining - Pressure treated wood.

    All
what you guys use for deck staining on a pressure treated wood?

I used C2 Guard on my Cedar fence and I am really happy with it. I could use the same on the deck. It is pricey but I want to see whether there are any other better products out there.

    TIA

Ended up using the C2 Guard Homestead for the deck. It turned out really good. I like the results.

There was a huge thread about this last month. Too bad you didnt do a quick search.

    - proper prep is essential, this includes sanding and deck cleaning with a chem cleaner. Neglecting these steps will ensure even the best stain will require rework much quicker than if these steps had been followed.

    - that C2 sealer appears to be of low quality and performance. You want an OIL BASED, highly volatile, super toxic, stain for serious durability in Calgary. Anything water-based will not last long in our climate.

This is the reality in Calgary.

How did your deck hold up after the winter?

I also used C2 Guard on my cedar deck last year and it's peeling really badly.

Did you do a proper prep as recommended for our climate?

It was a new deck so I used a palm sander to smooth it out and remove any mill glaze from the cedar. That was all that was recommended by the retailer. C2 is supposed to have a 6 year guarantee for decks but I'm assuming all they'll do is provide me with more crappy stain.

It's Calgary, I'm south facing and have probably used 90% of the products out there.
Expect it to be a Bi-yearly maintenance thing as our weather just beats up on the stuff

You needed to do a clean as well.

Also C2, for reasons as mentioned above, is not appropriate for our climate.

After using this product last year I will never use anything else on pressure treated wood. I made an 8 year old deck look new, made it through the winter with dogs and kids not even a mark.

Horizontal surfaces require maintenance every 2-4 years

Thats enough for me to not use. Anything "eco friendly" wont last long here.

What's cost like for this stuff? My fence is brown pressure treated, I wouldn't mind changing it to grey but with fencing on all 3 sides it's going to add up.
