    Default Groundpilots.com - Permanently Grounded?

I know in recent years there seems to have been a dislike for anything coming out of the Calgary Ground Pilots forum, but I'm from way back in the early 2000s. I recently tried to check in and it appears that the people running the site have let it drift off into e-space.

I have a soft spot for CGP as it was my very first online forum that I not only joined but was an active member of. I know that some of you are going to read this and realize that as my clients, CGP is where we first crossed paths. The activity on CGP had been dropping for several years now to the point where pretty much nobody was visiting or posting over the last six months to a year. Still, as I posted on CGP a couple of months ago, it was like an old friend that you didn't really see any more, but still thought of fondly.

So here's a left handed wave to anyone who reads this and remembers the old days of Viffer, Doc, Bandit (not me) and the others that I can't recall by name off the top of my head because I'm just getting too damn old.

I made lots of good friends through groundpilots, many I still keep in contact with today. lots of parties, lots of fun times. I haven't check in on the site for a long time. still sad to see it go though. it was a big part of my life for a while.

Restricted Airspace, isn't that the one with a clip of someone doing an endo right in front of a cop (and not knowing the cop was there)?

Lol, there was this one forum I loved, called calgary underground.com. actually the long lost member CUG on here was the founder of it. Lol the hateraid for CGP there was hilarious. But yeah there are no more calgary based bike forums anymore. Both CGP and CUG are long gone. Just a couple FB groups left, that's all.

It's funny how much things have changed in terms of forums. I've noticed a pretty big decline in Beyond's traffic too. Maybe it's just the threads I pay attention to, but they seem to have really slowed down as well.

Oh yeh that viffer guy was a real dipshit.

I just noticed the other day that the forums are dead. The "pic of the week" is from 2013. lol.

I met tons of great folks through CGP (including my insurance guy!), went on some great rides, and had some good laughs posting in the forums. In its heyday CGP sadly consumed a large portion of my time.. good thing most of my posting was done on company time. Its downfall, in my opinion, was over-zealous moderation and too much effort to keep discussions on-topic. Once the humour and good natured ribbing was gone, the regulars left and never returned, turning it into the ghost town that it has been for the last 3 years. As beyond.ca has proven, you need more than 100% enthusiast discussion to keep people coming back - you gotta have the off topic entertainment.

I was huge in to that site for a looong time and you're right viff, it was a huge time sink but it was a big part of my daily routine. You're also right that overmoderation took the fun away. The CRKs moved on, and a few others dropped due to work and family and it died without an influx of new members to make up for it. I offered to buy it a couple times while it was still salvageable, and back when I would have had the time to really grow it with advertising, a booth at the bike show, etc. It's sad that it's gone and the bike chat has moved on to facebook, as I just don't use facebook, but I certainly have more productive workdays now than I did back then.

Some are for sure. They view their ride as being more refined than all the GSXR1RRZX's out there. Much better for long distance touring as well, although I found my vfr only marginally comfier when riding long distance... true road tripping is best done on cruisers & gold wings.
