Friends using social media marketing -thoughts?

Anyone else finding in the last year or two their Facebook feeds, instagram etc have blown up with friends marketing pyramid scheme (#notapyramidscheme) products?

I've had to unfollow at least a dozen people on both Facebook and instagram as their posts are 90% ads now.

Roden and fields has been the worst one lately with friends writing personal notes and the "success" stories which usually end up being before: bad lighting, no makeup after: good lighting and makeup to show their skin care transformation haha.

Others are Norwex and scentsy.

I'm all for people making extra cash especially with this downturn but holy shit, everyday a new post!!

It's just the modern day avon lady... Most of those are not really scams just avon type sales. Mine is filled with the whole weird protein shake/blender girl fitness type sales stuff. Just remove them from your news feed

Facebook is just an advertising platform. Anyone who thinks its for connecting with people is just kidding themselves. Same as Instagram. Just remove them from your feed if it annoys you though

Facebook (at least friends posts on Facebook) used to be 100% about connecting, sharing experiences and in a lot of cases bragging about the life you pretend to have.

Just recently I've found it turned into an advertising platform for people.

Yes as I stated I've been removing them from my feed just annoying because I'm genuinely interested in what they do outside of marketing garbage products

facebook doesnt and never has made money from you connecting with your long lost high school buddies, if you're not paying for a product/service, that's because you ARE the product, they are selling you to advertisers.

Havent found it too bad yet. Mine is just a few female friends trying to sell makeup or candles or other shit. They all give up on it within in a few months. I've mostly had to unfollow a large portion of my friends list for spewing political propaganda non stop. I can deal with the selling shit.

It's not so bad, I typically just unfollow them, what really gets me is the keeners who are constantly inviting you their product parties, and love to follow up with 'are you going to make it msgs'

It's one thing to get suckered into be rep for those MLM companies, but a whole nother when it unwillingly gets forced down your throat.

I used to live with room mates who had weekly mentoring session with the couple that sponsored them, always trying to get me to sit in. Buddy used to show up in a rusted out 90s Toyota Camery spewing wealth and prosperity...

FB can be useful formbuy/sell groups though, I've noticed you get way more exposure then kijiji now a days

Delete all of your social media. There is no reasonable case for keeping it, unless you love being exposed to advertisements.

Don't worry, you can still contact your friends with your phone to see what they're up to.

3 girls I grew up with became "instafamous" (500k-2mm followers) due to both their natural and enhanced assets. They all non-stop have post of womans protien shakes and supplements, sports apparel, bikini companies and other brands. After talking to them I can tell that companies pay these intstafamous people boatloads to advertise for them. The one girl said she's gets $500 in free clothes per month from the one brand and $1500 cash. Similar from the other 4-5 brands she reps. It's insane to me that this girl is making 6-8k per month on instagram because she has over a million creepers wanting to look at her boobs in a bikini.
