Yo bro, are you from that goat Calgary car forum that get salty over lawn care, land rovers and circumcisions? That's straight fire.

While that is true, you're more susceptible to spending that $5K when you 'see' it all in your chequing account.

That Select option is a sweet deal though. It comes with a SDB and free annual fee on the TD First Class!

Oh I agree, it is a bit of a challenge to keep the $5k limit, but that's why I said in theory

How good is the rate exactly compared to say the actual exchange rate if you don't mind me asking?
I know at first calgary, it is generally $0.02 above par when I transfer direct from cdn to my us account there.

i dont remember exact numbers, but in the past i've compared the rates and questrade and calforex preferred rates both beat my "preferred usd rate" through select service.

and good luck with the safety deposit box, ive been on a waitlist for 7 goddam years at my branch!! newer branches are easier to get into though.

To the First Class VISA users, have you used the card overseas or in the US?

Do you know if it has foreign transaction fees within it? How is the card doing in terms of benefits?

I'm conflicted on whether to go this route or AMEX Gold/Platinum.

Back on topic, I'm seeing heavy advertising for First Calgary! I'm tempted to switch for the no fees but the convenience of using TD ATM's all over Calgary is making me iffy on the switch.

I'm assuming there are charges for using any ATM's, yes?

    +1 for first calgary

with limited number of atms there is a pro to that
heard through the grapevine that within the year you will be able to withdraw money though other non first calgary ATMS with no service\

I opened recently with them and the only catch is you have to use them as your primary bank such as direct deposits for pay etc..

    Bump.

Might be switching to Tangerine for the no-fee life. Anyone prefer this over PC Financial?

I switched everything to tangerine.. They have a great promotional interest rate for TFSA's and anything that I needed to do at the bank can be done on their app. Cheques can be cashed by taking a photo, DD forms and void cheques can be done online. Also they have free money transfers.

Also, to add to johnny said, every 7/11 has a Scotia ATM so it is really easy to find a ATM to get cash out. This is why I chose Tangerine over PC.

I tried to get a Tangerine account earlier this year, for the free EMT's, and it was a pain in the ass. I wasn't able to get my account open with the first check at all, and I eventually just gave up. Maybe if they fix their process down the road i'll switch over, but I guess for now I'll keep using PC.
