where are you going to cab it? if its just in and around the strip/fremont, just get a bus pass, it just does a circle route and is completely safe and like $12 for the day or something.

hoover dam, you will need o rent a car, cab will probably be more than renting a car and the exotic driving experience im pretty sure a cab would suffice.

like Dave said, bring good walking shoes, January isnt very warm out there, albeit way warmer than here, but bring a spring jacket. dont bring your swim trunks because the pools wont be open in january(most places anyways).

if you want a cheap day, eat breakfast/lunch/dinner at Mcdicks in MGM, play the penny slots and watch the free booze rolling in lol

I was there in February, I would not cab it to Hoover Damn. Aside from the traffic, it will be a pain in the ass to get out if you don't make arrangements for pick up. Then again I was really hung over when we went, so I don't remember seeing any cabs, tour buses on the other hand was readily available just book one of those if you really want to go. The tour inside was okay, you get to watch a show about the history of the Dam, then get to go see the generators.

Stay at the strip and walk, we stayed at Planet Hollywood so it was really convenient, I swear by Blondies as well, good times. And the one place that is a definite go to, for late night munchies, Earl of Sandwich best sandwich you will eat after a night of drinking, or during.

Aside from the shows, check out shooting ranges, Gun store wasn't too far from the strip and they have a good selection.

Go through priceline to rent yor car, we jsut came back from 4 days, and we paid $14/day for the car. With taxes it was $100 total.

In june we were there and did exotic racing, we took 458 italia, definately worth it, i recomend buying the video for $75 bucks though

save an extra 100 bucks and do the ride along with the professional driver, I only got to drive one car but two would be nice... 5 laps go by too quick, I did 7 and was also quick.. also keep in mind how you are gonna get to the track cuz it isnt close to the strip... its not cheap

Nice write up. The one time I went to Sin City Comedy it wasn't that bad though. I thought it was pretty funny. Either you caught it on an off-time, or I got lucky with a good time.

Everyone's gotta walk the strip once, but now that it's over with you'll just want to drive/cab/bus it everywhere you go now.

When people ask me what Aria is like, I simply describe it as a nightclub with table games.

    Speaking of table games...

This is why I don't like blackjack. I don't feel like I should be responsible for taking cards from the dealer because if you win, you're likely not going to give me a cut because I just lost.

    Booze

Booze is not cheap. At least not in the casino's. Yes you do get free booze if you are sitting at any machine and gambling but on average it took 25 minutes for her to come around. At that point most people just went and bought drinks.

Yes you can drink anywhere (street, other casino, etc) and even with glass bottles. Only thing you cant do is steal the restaurant or casino's glasses. On the second day we drove down to the gas station and bought 12 beer and a tank of gas for $40.00. Lasted us the night and no one questioned us at all. Only rule we heard was that you cannot drink booze within 1000 ft of the place you purchased it.

    Smoking

Maybe it is just us but we were really surprised about how you can smoke almost everywhere. We were sitting at blackjack tables and we were the only ones not smoking. Typically there are non-smoking tables but they are also the lower handicapped ones as well. Not a huge deal just found it strange.

    Rental Car

For me personally I would get a rental car again. From the airport it was a 10 minute bus ride to the car, 5 minutes to check in, and 10 minutes to the strip. Valet at most hotels is free. We drove to all three outlet malls, Hoover dam, Echo Bay (in Lake Mead National Park), and all around Vegas. We went to this really cool area called The District and wandered around. (http://www.thedistrictatgvr.com/) lots of things you couldnt do without a car. We drove just over 300 miles and total cost was $105USD including gas. . When you are leaving your room you call the Valet with your number and they get your car up. Super easy.

    Shows

We wanted to go and see a cirque show but werent coordinated enough. We were staying in The Mirage which had the Beatles cirque show. When we went and checked it was $405 for the two of us to go. We thought that was crazy and bought some VIP tickets to Sin City Comedy in Planet Hollywood for $80. It sucked. Venue sucked and never had a waitress even though we were VIP section. Entertainers were funny enough. Should have paid the $400 for the show. In essence you really do get what you pay for there.

    Shopping

Shopping is like any outlet mall in the US. Some deals are good but most suck. We actually had the best luck at a place called Town Square. I love a certain kind of shirt that is $150 here and they had them on for $80 custom tailored. Some sick deals to be had.

There is a north and south outlet mall. South is more ghetto but bigger. North is like all the premium outlets I have been to in the US. Town Square was like a cookie cutter kensington. I quite liked it. Add to that the mile mall in PH and all the shops in Caesars, Bellagio, Crystals, Aria, and all the others.

    Hotels

Most of the Hotels are good. Everything in the middle was nice. PH, Mirage, TI, Venitian, Paris, Bellagio, Caesars, etc are all in the middle. MGM, Luxor, etc are at the southern end and Encore and Wynn are at the north end. They arent all that bad. Some hotels (MGM Resorts I think) charge $20.00 a day for Wifi and who knows what else.... water maybe). I saw a sign at PH (I think) that said they dont have the resort fee. If you have a $20.00 difference between the two keep that in mind.

Of all the hotels we liked The Mirage, PH, and Bellagio the best. Aria was amazing to look at from the outside.

    Gambling

Most tables are easy on newbies just make sure you ask. We were playing blackjack and you get some jackass sitting down who doesnt know what to do and hits and fucks up the rest of the deck. guys were good to talk you through. Lower tables were $5.00 until about 3 on the weekdays, then when to $10. On weekends they go $10 to $15. Lots of slots and poker.

No you wont get your room comped by playing. We were playing with a guy who was playing $300 - $500 a hand and all he got was free smokes. Dealer was saying it was $1500+ a hand territory to get comped rooms at The Mirage. High Limit rooms are $500 - $2000 min hands so dont even bother.

    Food

Food is really really good but VERY expensive. Breakfast at Caesars was always $60+ (two coffees and eggs benny). Dinner was never under $150 (mainly pubs nothing overly fancy). There is a reason McD's is packed all the time.

    Money

Budget your money before you go (hard to do on your first time). Our whole trip cost about $4500. We were there for 4 days. We had $1500 in cash taken out and it was gone in by dinner the second night. CC is taken everywhere so dont worry. We charged a lot to our room and hit the CC with 1 charge at the end. A lot of the hotels are 1 company so you can be in MGM and charge dinner to your room at The Mirage. Cover to most clubs or rippers is $60+ unless you arrange something else.

    Other Excursions

We didnt do much else but there is pretty much anything in the world you can think of. Rent super cars, walk around, skydive, helicopter tours, yada yada.

    Final Tips

Make sure to walk around. We walked the whole strip (Wynn to MGM and back to our hotel and we both died. Took almost 4.5 hours).

Make sure you know where you are going. There is only Wifi at your hotel you can access unless you are going to pay $35.00 for cross resort fees.

There is no recycling bins at all. We carried our bottles for 20 minutes before we figured that out.

Dont freak out when you realize you cant cross some intersections. There are a lot of convoluted walkways that take you through casino's and on walkways that go over the strip so you dont stop traffic and you walking around.

Make sure you see the watershow at the Bellagio. I wasnt too interested but the wife wanted to see it and it is pretty amazing actually.

Not sure if I forgot anything. Was a great trip. I cant wait to go again!

    ]

Booze: Agreed 100% However if you go play at the penny slots and give the waitress like $5 or $10 for a round of drinks she will come around a lot quicker next time! They work on tips, but everything is free, even like patron shots.. (We used 2 order them for the table screwing around and having fun, and would always just give the waitress $20)

If you are going to be renting a car, you can always just drive off the strip and go get some booze. From someone that lived there I'm telling you right now not to wonder off the strip 2 much at night to find cheap alcohol since it's very ghetto on pretty much every section away from the strip.

If you want to save on booze, when you get picked up by a Taxi at the airport, just ask him to stop at a Liquor store on Paradise drive and you can get some cheaper beer. However I don't remember any close Liquor stores that sell vodka, you would have to drive about 5min away..

The thing with drinking in Las Vegas, is that you can only drink anywhere on the strip, as soon as you get off you are not allowed to drink in public any more.

Smoking: You can even smoke inside the clubs (I found this super weird as well, but same thing goes, get off the strip and buy some smokes at the gas station before you go 2 your hotel.

Cars: Valet is free, however if you do not tip it will usually take then 10-20minutes to get your car, however if you give them between $5-$20 tip you will have a nice spot and get your car quickly.

Shows: There is cheap booths to buy tickets the day of the shows (If they aren't sold out) I know there is a good one right by Bills casino @ Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd.

Shopping: Townsquare is nothing special IMO, however if you go to the premium outlet malls there is great deals to be found!

Just make sure you go to the right one, there is one on the North and South side, and the one on the South SUCKS!

    http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=58

Hotels: Not to much to say here, however a $20 tip between ur ID and Visa can go a long way! We got an amazing view at Treasure Island with tons of discount coupons to save for the $20 resort fee, however that could not be waived off..

Our view for an extra $20

Gambling: If you plan on spending your whole trip gambling, you should do it at one casino and get a players card (You are useless 2 them without it) And they will not comp your room right away, but they will invite you 2 come back, I know that MGM and Ballys are very known for this.

However I recommend you stick to doing other things then wasting your money playing slots (BTW this is what gets comped the most, as they make the most money on this)

Food: The food is very expensive, however there is also some cheap fastfood places, you don't have to spend $100+ on a meal, there is two mcdonalds on the strip which regular prices, and a ton of fast food places in the casinos that are overpriced but still reasonable. If you are just with some buddies I'd recommend just eating some fastfood for 3-4days and saving a shitload of money..

Money: Agreed it is very hard to budget cash in Vegas since everything is very expensive, My buddy ended up running out after the 1st night and I had to spot him like $2,000 for the next 3 nights.

If you go 2 Vegas you should pack light and head to the premium outlet malls at the start before you blow all of your money. If you want to save money you visit the Old strip, everything there is super cheap!

If you go any other questions just ask away here, I lived there for nearly 5months and I know my way around pretty good! I've also gone down for the weekend about 3-4 times...

Best Poker Rooms: Venetien, (Nice deep games).. MGM - Softest game but everyone buys in for $40 and just wants to get drunk..

Ballys - If there is a convention in town

Ceasers - Sucks! there is $6 rake on 1/2NL which is just redic.

Booze varies, reasonably cheap at Walgreens compared to the stores in hotels/paying for drinks at bars, just buy a big beer every so often or throw a few in your sink with ice if you're going to be somewhat local if you really care. But yeah if you want cheap US alcohol, gotta go off the strip.

There's cheap ticket places up and down the strip, we hit one of them up for a comedian at the Flamingo last trip in Nov. It was only like 40 bucks and he was pretty funny, just making fun of the crowd, my sense of humour so it worked. Cirque shows you're pretty much stuck paying $$$ though.

Having to pay for wifi is mega gay, just another way to nickel and dime you.

Strippers entrance fee you should really try to catch one of their limo rides and comp'd admission, otherwise if you're hammered and catch a taxi to one, I don't think I've paid more than 30 bucks to get into rhino or sapphire.

Just got back from Vegas a week ago! Exotic racing is a must!!!! I drove the italia and the gallardo and you can imagine redlining that 458 italia or the v10 in the lambo!! I stayed at the luxor and I wouldn't recomend it because it is way to far from everything! Took us about 4 hours to walk from the Luxor all the way to the Paris (checking some casinos on the way and getting drinks) also the food at the Luxor was a 2/10 so stay away!!

I will have to disagree with you on that one. It highly depends on what you play. If you play a game with high house advantage then they will comp you faster. If you play something like Pai Gow Poker then you probably won't be able to comp anything even if you play $50-100/ hand for 4 hours a day. It also all depends on how much you wager total, doesn't matter if you win or lose. e.g. You play 500 hands of blackjack at $25 a hand= total wager of $12,500. Say the house advantage for the game is 2%, then statistically you should have lost $250 and the casino might give you $80 worth of comp. Of course if you sit down, somehow lost $5,000 in 10 mins, the pit boss will take notice too and you will get something for it. I find that because it's the pitboss writing down your play rate, it helps if you occasionally tip the dealer. Although I'm not a high roller, I do have some experience with the Mirage because I've stayed there quite a few times, especially since they introduced the new mlife.

One trip we were able to comp 3 nights plus two buffets with 2 days of slots playing at ~4-5 hours/day.

One trip we played a mix of craps and blackjacks and let it ride for a few hours day, ~ $25/hand, and we got a few nights comp'd.

Last two trips combined I played ~ 20-30 hours of craps combined at $10-15 table minimum, which got me the mlife gold status. I'm going back again next week and in Feb. Next week I have 3 nights comp'd (plus $125 freeplay + food credit) and in Feb I have 2 nights comp'd (+$150 free play).

Sometimes we go with someone who plays an average of $700/hand on Pai Gow tiles ( according to the host, not our estimate) and he has his own casino host, gets 2-3 rooms comped for the whole trip (so when we go with them we get free rooms too), plus all food and beverage covered and any shows that they want to watch. He also has $1700 in expressed comps sitting there because he doesn't even need to use them.

This is all at the mirage. Just saying you don't need to be playing crazy to 'comp'. If you start going to the higher end casino like the Wynn and Bellagio then it's a different story.

BTW playing poker won't get you ANYTHING. They work off of a comp system that entirely differently than the rest of the casino. I believe it's $1/hour, so pretty much nothing. You can be playing 20 hours a day and won't get shit. Although they will send you 'poker room' rate for future stays.

Casino won't actually out right offer you a free room unless you are playing ALOT (e.g. ask for $100k in chips). What you need to do, and most people don't, is to go to the players club desk or call them from the room before you check out and ask if you can comp anything. They will either tell you No you didn't play enough, or they can comp your resort fee, or your meals, or your room. This is the players club desk, not the checkout desk. They operate differently and the checkout desk won't know whether you have any comp or not. Always call the players club and ask before you check out!! Of course this means you also need to sign up for players club as soon as you arrive and use the card to play.

Here are a few tips to remember for comping:
    - If you are playing table, give them your players card before you start playing. The pit boss will write down your info and start making note on your playing pattern ( how much you cash in, how much you wager, etc.).
    - In most cases you will need to play a min of $25 a hand to qualify.
    - With mlife, you get express comp as well, which is food and beverage credit that you can use at the restaurants or at the pool. You just check how much you have at the desk or terminal, and use it at the restaurant like it's a gift card.
    - If you have a Tier 2 or higher mlife card, you can actually use the VIP lines at the buffet to skip the regular line. This is valid for all hotels under the same reward program (e.g. you can be staying at mirage but skipping the buffet line at Aria).
    - Even if you don't plan to play alot, use your card anyway so you can get into their mailing system and they will start emailing you cheap hotel rate for future visits.

I guess I was down there same time as Cos.

Town Square is better because less people know about it. And I find the layout better. Good luck finding parking @ Premium Outlet past noon. And you can always drop of the women @ Town Square and spend sometime @ Fry's next door.

Car rental is a must now especially if you are not Vegas virgin. Self Park is always free and usually take 5-6 mins tops and you are back on the strip. Try to avoid driving on the strip if possible. Check out back roads that get you north to south quicker.

There are a few other tourist thing like The Gun Store or a few go kart places. All only reachable by cars. I heard the dune buggy is weak as they have limiter. It's cheaper and more fun in Cali.

Did the helicopter tour and flying into the Grand Canyon is highly recommended.

I mostly avoid food on strip. Most are pretty standard fair especially Wolfgang's places except may be a few. Jean George in Aria was pretty good. I actually duck into Chinatown for Japanese or Korean more often now as they are cheaper and sometimes quite authentic.

Similar to what happened to me except I didn't get to gold. Just pearl. Min $10 bets on craps for a couple hours and I got to mLife pearl by the time I left 2 weeks later. I probably could've made it to gold but I didn't really start playing a lot of craps until later in the trip.

Valet at casinos is free (the ones I went to anyways) so self-park isn't worthwhile doing, imo. The Gun Store is awesome and Pole Position is a go-karting place right by the Palms. That was a lot of fun too. They're not far off the strip, so it's not a bad cab ride if you don't have a rental.

But if you have a car, I hear the buffet at the M Casino in Henderson is awesome. Henderson is basically the Okotoks of Las Vegas. Not a far drive at all.

We are headed down March 28th. 4 nights at the Stratosphere, and flight from Bellingham, WA, for $325 each. Not the best hotel, but we are doing it cheap.

Shows we might see are Ka, Peepshow, and Tournament of kings. Any comments on those 3?

Dont plan on gambling too much, maybe play some poker. Plan to rent a car and head to the Hoover, and the outlet malls. Might pickup a suit while I'm down there, I hear they are pretty cheap at the malls.

Anyone had luck with the discount ticket booths? Or should I just man up and buy my tickets ahead of time. Oh, also plan to stuff myself silly with food.

I'm hoping for a super cheesy show, thats all I want. Get drunk and watch guys bang each other with swords.

Just found this website, my dream is complete.
