I can't either. I'm just going by what Bruce said in the interview..that they're checking into their insurance to see what can and can't be covered.

^^ I saw the interview as well. Not sure how being bonded works but would that help these people who lost money from these guys?

Glad to hear that you made it out unscathed from this one!

Just goes to show you, all the official accreditations (http://theremodelers.ca/credentials/) and awards (http://theremodelers.ca/awards/) are meaningless. A sure red flag is the fact the owners are not named on the website.
Wonder if the "BBB" will be owed money for their yearly membership dues.

A friend and competitor of mine is on the hook for 22k with them but his lawyer say the Government bonding may cover it, I'd like to hazard a guess that the owners received healthy bonuses in the last little while.
Wonder what the bonding does for the homeowners who handed over large cheques recently.
At least it shows the BBB as a crock and a complete waste of money.

I watched a 20/20 thing on BBB and they basically showed they were almost extortionists. Some small business had F ratings and they supposedly had no bad customers so when they contacted BBB they were told that if they paid the fees they would go from F to A rating. 20/20 paid the fees for them and within 24 hours they were an A rating.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Bonding of a pre-paid contractor arrangement may provide some relief but that's usually only for the homeowner, not the sub-trades.

Wow...website's been taken down. All their production videos from the "Remodel it" division have been taken down. Facebook business page; gone. Houzz.com page for them is gone.

Talked to a few sparkies yesterday on one of the sites, and they say it looks like he's moved out of his own house. (few guys went to see about getting paid from him...)

Don't have a good feeling about the whole "RE-structuring" term.

We're talking millions of dollars here!!

there are so many fly by night operations around now, it is impossible to tell who you can trust any more. And with how many people are out there, they see how much money is to be made with renos, and that just increases the chance of finding bad apples.

    Glad you got paid Dave.

I had a gut feeling about this guy when I was flipping channels one night and saw an episode of them sitting around a counter wirh Theron Fluery. Fluery sat there like a useless zit while they talked about colour and wood. they basically were using him as a name drop to promote their business. when I saw that I had a feeling they weren't very savvy.
