The all new 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Like the Nissan Titan, the Toyota Tacoma is on a 10 year refresh cycle. Toyota unveiled the Access Cab configuration today in Detroit. High-strength steel is the buzz word for all new trucks these days. The Tacoma is no exception. The new ladder frame uses it and new ultra-high strength steel is used for body panels to reduce weight.

The new Tacoma is motivated with a pair of engines. Looks like the 2.7L 4 cylinder carries over to the new model paired to a new 6-speed automatic. A new 3.5L Atkinson cycle V6 with D-4S tech will be the bigger and likely more popular option. The V6 is mated to the same 6-speed auto or an option 6-speed manual. That’s right, the manual isn’t dead yet.

i believe it means the same new 6 speed auto tranny with the 2.7 l engine

Looks very nice, but the more i try to justify buying a truck the more i end up not wanting one.

Tacoma was always a 5 speed auto V6 and a 4 speed auto 4 cylinder.

The V6 is getting a 6 speed auto finally. The 4 banger isnt getting any changes.

The V6 is a 3.5L 2GR D4S system like the ISF and LS V8 has been using. So 6 direct injectors and 6 port injectors.

Smart key for the limited model seems like a huge thing, even the Tundra doesn't have that.

Nothing else seems ground breaking, from the photos it still looks like it has the same suspension and rear drum brakes that plagued the old generation.

I'm curious as to what specific functions the offroad editions will have over the normal models, like crawl control or a locker etc... It looks like there will be a TRD Sport and a TRD Offroad again.

With all the options now that it should have had before, I'm glad it's taken this long to come out. I love my 15 a lot despite the lack of amenities but I had to buy one before year end of 14 so I'll be happy for a few years and then trade up. I think mine is a great truck so this can only get better.

It's going to be a month or two. Press drives are this week. Hype for it next week. Likely release in Sept is my guess.

The Taco has been my favorite truck on the market for decades now. Maybe its finally time to own a new one lol.
