Very true, especially pressure treated. Even the best of the best is pretty shitty. Unless you go with a clear cedar, but then the price goes up like crazy.
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside us.

I thought I'd bump this instead of starting a new thread.

Are there any other places I should check out that aren't mentioned in this thread? I need about $5000 worth of lumber for my fence.

I'm looking for good quality lumber at a fair price. Saving 10% to get crap lumber is what I'd like to avoid.

    Lumber King or Timbertown.

I do have to say though that my BIL got his joists from Timbertown, and a couple were not so good. But they were extremely long lengths (16 feet). Everything else was fine.

I recall seeing a flyer from Timbertown that had 10% off all their decking/fencing materials until mid-Sept. They've always given me good quality wood, so I'd probably dump my money there.

    Thanks,

I've gotten a quote from lumber king and I sent in for a quote from timbertown.

I also checked lowes but they came in more expensive than lumber king, for what I'm assuming is lower quality wood.

How long do you plan to live there?

Just asking, because if it's going to be awhile, I suggest getting 5/4 boards instead of the traditional 1", they are FAR superior in quality, looks and durability.

edit: Also heavy as fuck though, so plan on closer 4x4 posts, or use 6x6's

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

We do plan on staying here as long as we live. The post holes are already done so there's no chance of changing the spacing.

There is a 40 year old fence on the one side of our yard and the fence boards seem to be holding up okay. The posts are slowly rotting out from the top however. They look like they were just pounded into the ground.
