Is the ratio different between the automatic mechanism and the crown?
The crown definitely has more recoil than the rotor so it'll power up the watch quicker. Same result if you spin your hand faster though haha.

Thanks guys! Sounds like I don't have much to worry about. Really like it so far.

    Holy
I think I should use that the next time someone asks me how an automatic works.

Manual winding is totally fine. If it stops completely give the crown 10-15 turns before putting it on your wrist.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the watch, Mitsu!

Manual wind has resistance like a wind-up toy and you'll feel it lock when it's fully wound. You're in good hands.

    Thanks guys.

I thought the crown never stops turning because there is a clutch mechanism to prevent over-winding, either by manual wind or automatic wind. Is that not the case? I've read you can feel when it's fully wound, but the crown doesn't lock - maybe I misunderstood.

In either case I don't think I have ever fully wound it manually, usually 5-10 turns is more than enough to find it running still the next morning.

Seiko 5 is indeed where it's at. I still rock mine on the regular. Although now I'm rocking the fitbit more often. Shit, that was more than $100, so I can't really talk about it here.

I was reading about the Seiko 5 on your blog. It intrigues me, but I'm not a fan of the strap.

I just recently stopped rocking the fitbit, which is why I now want to start looking at some watches. Also stopped rocking the (original) pebble a few years back.

Yessireeebob! Holding up good. Couple of scratches in the crystal, and the case has some wear marks, but that ugly ass fabric strap is no uglier, and it's kind of grown on me. Because of the strap, I treat that one as my "weekend" kind of watch, when I'm more likely to be changing my oil than dressing up.

What I like about the 5 is that it's a strap change away from any occasion. lol

FYI Watchismo.com has lots of watches on sale right now for half off

couldn't help myself and ordered this for $261CDN after taxes (regularly $400US). Ordered iit this am, shipped after lunch!

I will have 2 or 3 watches for sale this weekend, I don't think I need a dozen watches

Unfortunately my watch broke over the Christmas holiday (Hamilton Khaki Automatic). It doesn't hold a wind for more than 2-3 hours absolute maximum (if wound completely) , and dies regularly while on my wrist, even if I give it the odd manual wind in between 'deaths'. Basically it's behaving as though the spring that holds the wind energy is no longer holding proper tension or something. It's with Justin now, but I was told 1-2 months for turnaround time which is not great. Anyone have this happen to them before with an automatic watch? Probably the last Hamilton I buy - I expected it to work longer than 6 months.

My automatics have been running for years. I have several automatics older than me and still work.

    Sorry to hear.

They are so cheap that you might be better off buying a new one instead of paying for a service
