The Japanese are fiercely brand loyal, they'd probably riot in the streets if Nissan axed the brand to something else.
My Father in law is a Mitsubishi guy, doesn't matter how bad the car is, thats what he buys, along with Mitsubishi air conditioners, DVD players, Tv's, Fridges, microwaves, vacuum cleaners etc. All really separate corporate entities, but seen as one in Japan. It seems to be a regional support fixation.
