    Default LF: Divorce Lawyer recomendations.

Alright, I am done with waiting, I need to get the ball rolling on this quickly.

I need some references for divorce lawyers. I don't have a whole lot of cash, so I can''t afford the best, but I need something.

Has anyone gone through the process and stated that they really wish their ex had found someone else instead of their lawyer kind of thing? I am looking for that lawyer.

Does anyone know how much of a upfront fee they require or what on average? I need to start saving as best I can here. After her cheating on me 4 times that I at least know about, I am just not going to put myself through this any longer.

Thanks so much guys, you have no idea how much I appreciate this.

Straight up dude... good for you.

I would check out some divorce/law forums... whatever. Hopefully you have evidence of her cheating.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

If there is any possibility of her being reasonable with you - an amicable separation agreement really is the best (and cheapest) option in this province - for both of you.

Sorry - I can't offer any advice on which lawyer either.

I used Gillian back in 02-03 and she was great and the price was right. A few buds have gone to her since but since shemade partner I have know idea on her rates as of today.

If she doesn't have a lawyer, then do not bring your own into this. Do a seperation agreement, and file for divorce yourself.

First of all, welcome to the club!

Seriously though, divorce blows. The key is the separation agreement. What pissed me off about my whole divorce ordeal was that neither lawyer was working for me... they were working for themselves to bank more hours, and cost me more money (I had agreed to pay for both lawyers up front to make things easy, what a fucking mistake).

One lawyer would bring up the smallest detail for amendment, the other lawyer would argue for the sake of arguing even though I said I didn't care because it didn't affect anything. Or her lawyer would say she legally deserves more and fight for this, and go through a week long process of arguing both ways over something we had already agreed on. Then my lawyer would tell me that I'm giving her too much, and try to convince me to fight more. It was ridiculous, and dragged on for almost 3 years of stupid back and forth over dumb ass shit, racking up some serious hours. $300 phone calls sucks.

Looking back, like what CapnCrunch suggested, if you both can come to terms of a separation agreement, get a basic one drafted out, cover all your assets, both of you sign, and that'll save TONS of headaches.

Since you have kids, custody and child support payments can change over time. Nothing is concrete. Lawyers are gonna win there if they can convince your ex-wife to get more stuff down the road, and it's a never ending back and forth exercise to see who has more lawyer money.

I was/am lucky, I have a good lawyer in my pocket that works for me for free due to past interests. That's not to say it didn't cost me a lot of money but.....yeah lol.

I have no experience with this system but I have heard good things about it. I'm not sure how much of a cuntfest you're looking at dealing with though so maybe it's not the best option....

Wow man, that sounds rough. I don't have any lawyer suggestions yet as I am only 19 and haven't been through a divorce. I'd be tempted to get the most ruthless lawyer in existence and absolutely rape her life in court if I was in your situation.

    Stay strong.

Come on man. There's a kid involved. Two parents acting like hurt 6 year olds is going to be terrible for a child. The sooner you both can get over this shit and start acting like two parents, the better for your kid.

Come on man. There's a kid involved. The 19 year old that made the post. He didn't mean to sound like an idiot, he just doesn't know any better yet.

I can only imagine what you are feeling and facing. But good on you for drawing a line in the sand, you deserve more.

I have no lawyer advice, but would like to add my support and best wishes. Let us know if there is anything else you need.

Best bet is to put on a brave face, force yourself to be calm and relaxed as you negotiate terms. Don't give her any ammunition to use against you, eg: "He's mean, He yelled at me, He put me through emotional stress"...etc. Don't dwell on any of the crap she put you through unless it involves the kid. Take the high road and the courts may look favourable on it...as they have a tendency to arbitrarily side with the Women in divorces.

Do what is best for your child - and fight for it if necessary.

    Bro-hug. (no homo).

You can do a cost/benefit or ROI analysis on this, and it would not be worth it unless you are talking about assets greater than a few million but less than 50m, and the ex would have no money to fight back... then it becomes an exercise of who runs out of lawyer funds first.

That only works in the movies.
