i was wondering if anyone can help me find a small lcd screen that shows the map of the city/state/town im in. I can't find any gps navagation system with color =(
rage2
You'd need a screen + GPS unit, I don't think there's any DIN nav/screen units yet.

Lee is a good guy, gave me real good deals on some stereo stuff and he gave me some cool stuff...haha

No the tv tuner does not work off of your car antenna. And if you are already looking at getting the in dash unit put that money towards the joyride system it does one whole hell of alot more stuff for you.
rage2
I've looked into the Joyride system before getting my Clarion DVD/Alpine PowerNAV combo. The Joyride is basically an enhanced version of the Microsoft AutoPC... pretty much abandoned by Microsoft and development is now totally on Clarion's side (thus no more MS / AutoPC name affiliation, even though it's the same hardware). Now, that's up to you to decide if it's a good thing or now, I've seen too many MS projects fail after they abandoned them.

For the money you're paying for an all out Joyride system, you can get what I have, which gives a bigger screen, MP3, DVD capabilities, etc.
iiinycboi
i cant really afford the joyride system its twice as much as the indash screen (joyride - 2600 in-dash lcd - 1300) =/ unless someone can get me a good deal :)
rage2
You're not going to find anything cheaper... maybe you should look at the portable units? I have a Garmin Street Pilot Pro III or something, I think my dad bought that for around $2k.

holy high rollers batman!

You can get the SPIII for $1299 here.
http://www.prairie.mb.ca/sp3_d.htm

Youll need to buy a canadian CD for it too (i never tried it with this, so not sure how good detail it is)...

I never got it working very good with the internal antenna. You will probably want to invest in an external one as well. I guess this will depend for you, as it can depend on your car/where you mount it.

Ive used the unit before. Its not bad, but is sometimes a pain to use.

But Im guessing this is about as absolutely cheap as your going to find in a color GPS receiver (for now anyways...)
rage2
The SP3 contains all maps for Canada that has been made so far by Navtech. Works real well in most vehicles on the dash.
iiinycboi
im looking for a unit that doesnt have the screen just the receiver or whatever its called that sits int he trunk and i can hook it up to my lcd screen to display the map... thanks
rage2
Alpine PowerNav
Pioneer AVIC-90DVD

The 2 most popular choices. About $2300-$3000 depending on what kind of deal you can get. The Alpine is about $100 more expensive because you need the $100 AV kit to hook up to non Alpine LCD screens.
iiinycboi
thanks rage 2 im thinking of the Alpine PowerNav now but i cant find the AV KIT to hook it up to my clarion lcd screens... can you direct me to a site with the power nav and the kit? Thanks
rage2
I bought my PowerNav + AV Kit from Audio Concepts Mobile. They sold me old stock though, kinda sucks, got a Nav disc from 2000. Missing some roads here and there, and no 7-11's in the Calgary database! If you buy from them, MAKE SURE they get you the latest model + disc.
iiinycboi
do you have the site?
rage2
I don't think they have a site, try the phone book and give 'em a call.
iiinycboi
is there a name for the av kit? or its just called av kit? What company made this? is it just the yellow white and red wires?
rage2
yep, Yellow and white RCA outs (mono audio). They'll know if you ask for the nav and the AV kit to install on other screens. I had to school 'em on it looking thru their catalog (they thought the alpine nav ONLY works with alpine screens).
iiinycboi
you got any pics of your nav and dvd combo? I would like too see your wiring too thanks alot for you help rage 2
rage2
No pics of the wiring, it was installed professionally in the trunk.

oooo . . . rage you got some dirty ass fingers hahahaah
rage2
frickin' doritos!

Yea, fingerprints show up real easy on that screen... touchscreens kinda sucks.
iiinycboi
too bad i have to geet the 935 for the black model the one you have is the 925 right its blue doesnt match my black exterior plus black interior lol everything i have is black.
rage2
If you wanna trade, I'll take the 935 and you can have my 925. I could use the additional AV input.
