I would like to rent a Rug Doctor this weekend to clean my carpets, but I don't know where I would go to rent one, does anybody know? And what does it take to rent one, like would I need a credit card deposit or something? Please let me know as my carpets look like someone ran through a mud puddle and went to town on them.

Safeway, Home Depot has them too (not sure if they are Rug Doctor brand at Home Depot but they do the same thing).

If you go to safeway on wednesdays you can get them for 2 days for the price of 1. It cost 50 dollars including the big jug of carpet cleaner and handheld attachments. If you return the maching absolutly flawlessly clean they give you 10 dollars back (hint use a knife to clean in between the bristles if you want your money back). All you need is a valid credit car and a drivers licence.

i rented one 2 weeks ago from safeway (all big grocery stores usually have a rack of carpet cleaners @ the front of the store).

to summarize, the machine was filthy when i picked it up, and i returned it in the same condition. I got my $10 back too

You can buy a half decent one for not all that much $.
Then, you have it whenever you need to clean up a spot, and you don't have to load a filthy cleaner into you car and go through all the hassle.

I do have one, but it can only clean like 1/10 of a room with one container of water, it's alright for cleaning up a doggie accident here and there, but a Rug Doctor is the only real way to clean carpets properly.
