Any comments or opinions on where the best driving road (ie. curves, straights, smoothness) is in Alberta?

22x all the way to the end! (head west) when it ends, turn around and go nuts all the way back into town.

Highway 1a from cochrane into K-country. Fun road to drive, but it can get kinda loose/bumpy in spots.

Tunnel Mountain Road in Banff. Early in the morning in Spring/Summer while the air is still cool and crisp, tour busses and tourists are still in bed. Never any RCMP. Nothing like it!

roads in alberta suck - there bumpy and the surface is bad, the curves are badly engineered - theres rcmp all over. After seeing some highways abroad I must say Canada roads are crap, all of them, especially considering this is one of the worlds wealthiest nations

That road is fun but its very tight with a lot of blind corners. Not too mention tons of tourists, wildlife, cliffs and bumpy as hell. The frost heave has ruined that road. In the end its still fun to drive.

I took Highway 9 back from Sask. Lots of long straight sections, and very very few cars. Didn't see one cop the entire 800 km journey. Very few corners but fun for ripping down.

The new paved parts of glenmore are pretty nice to drive down!

Highway 40 around Highwood Pass is really nice. Lots of ups and downs, a fair amount of turns and great views all around. Just watch out for the Big Horn sheep and occasional patches of snow/ice.

The drive up and down Norquay during the summer is really nice if you have a compact RWD or AWD like an Impreza STi.

1A from Banff to Lake Louise is nice but watch out for the cyclists and wildlife.

Finally, Old Banff Coach Rd to the highway rules if you have a car which can handle the turns. Just watch out for the cyclists!

Since this was posted in the Subaru forums, you might like roads that are semi paved/unpaved dirt. It's a rally driver's dream haha.

Highway 1 west, get on highway 68, then back on 40, and back on 1. That is a damn fun loop, and the scenery is amazing. Up and down hills thru curves, by ponds and lakes. Tons of elevation changes and zero traffic (it goes nowhere).

If they paved it, it'd be a little nurburgring haha.

Beware there might be TONS of livestock on that road. Haven't driven it yet myself, but that's what I hear.

One of the best trips I took with my RS was up Spray Lakes Rd until I hit hwy 40. I did this in Oct/Nov I think. It's a dirt road, perfect for Subies. I took it at 11pn in pitch dark under full moonlight. Fun as hell! You'll need to thoroughly wash your car afterwards though.

Yeah i have to agree on the 1A between banff and Lake louise, I just took a extra long drive this past sat down that road, and kept going all the way to golden, it was a good drive.

my favourite road is the norquay hill climb, absolutely the best road in the bow valley

this time of year...

highway 40, from Hinton thru Grande cache up to G.P.
...during the dry fall period, after the summer crowd has cleared out, and before the oil patch picks up locally...
...is a nice mix of high-meadow country, some tight curve sections with some good stretches in between

closer and nice also...but more likely to have RCMP...is the run up highway 22, north from Cochrane, north past Sundre and the James river bridge

also...the long way through Kananskis country, down through Longview (541) up highway 40 (K-country) and back through Bragg creek is a nice for a fall sunday sprint as well

Just when I thought the cops that monitor this forum would stop watching old banff coach road just long enough so I could give my S14 a nice send off into winter slumber, the heat is back on. Ah well...

I've always been a fan of Jasper's Ice fields Parkway myself, but you need to be there really early in the morning, and keep an eye out for wildlife and bumps, and gravel that appears out of nowhere.

The road between Cherryville (east of Vernon) and Needles ferry.

UNREAL Roads!

For alberta, I used to love to take my bike from Calgary to Canmore on 1A when I lived back home

The highway through the badlands by drumheller is nice if you're looking for something other then mountains. I always liked driving the road with a bunch of one way bridges to wayne, alberta.
