Are you currently seeing knock on 91?
If not, can you tune for 94?
If not, don't bother. You'll lose power and mileage.

I've heard the ethanol can eat some older injectors. I've also heard it also may mess with your A/F ratio as unmetered oxygen (in the ethanol) is entering your fuel mix. Note that the 94 is 10% ethanol vs 5% for the rest of their gas.

Like I said, just hearsay, not a professional opinion. V-Power seems to serve me fine. You can add toluene or xylene to your gas if you want more octane.

Been runing 91 Esso on the SR20det stock. been runng fine, just wondering if 94 will do any improvement. Technically the sr20 supposed to be eating 91 or higher as I heard. What is ethanol anyway? Thanks.

SR20s dont seem to like ethanol. Im not sure the seals are compatible with it. I run Centex 92 octane in my SR and that seems to serve me best. Shell doesnt run well and most others are average. Havent tried anything with ethanol, for fear of recking my seals.

Must be a problem with your engine because shell got my sr20 the best mileage out of all other 91 octanes, and no loss of performance.

No problems with my engine. Centex 92 runs the best of anything. Shell always makes my fuel economy go down, I can get 700km out of a tank on the highway with Centex, and just under 600 on Shell. The Shell fuel also makes my car feel sluggish at lower RPMs compared to other fuels. I will never go back to Shell anyway because once my dad was filling up his car there (only station around and we NEEDED fuel, otherwise wouldnt have been there) and the pump ran out of premium and pumped 3/4 of a tank of regular into his car, and nobody notified us. Car went into limp mode as soon as we left the station (octane was too low). We went back and complained about lack of notification, and they told us its our problem, and refused to do anything about it. So we did some parking lot mechanics and had to drain everything and go buy a gas can and find some fuel elsewhere.

I agree, I never used Centex, I used Esso always, but one time I used Shell it make my car very sluggish too.

shell has more BTUs (energy) hence better gas mileage than Husky 94 which is ethanol. I run 94 to be safe whenever I can. If there's no Husky/Mohawk around, I just use Shell.

Which seals are you referring to exactly?

in that V4 eh.....i wannt see a V4 engine. that'd be cool.. also 94 octane in a 89 car really dont do anything. probably lower the gas mileage in the car. not add power

I see v4 engines fairly regularly, if you really want to see one i'll take a pic.

Centex 92 is garbage. A car tuned on Shell 91 will ping on Centex or Petro Canada.

For my NA cars, I ONLY use Shell 91 cause the formulation seems consistent, and it is readily available.

For my turbo cars, I only use 94, cause the ethanol is like built in intercooling, plus a bit of octane, you can usually run a couple pounds more boost.
