Please make my dream come true and offer up a dual clutch transmission!

hot dam

but I still love my sti :D

I hope they drop the sti hatch and bring in the STI sedan

but realistically, if they dont want to cut into their sti sales, they will have to do something about it, chances are good most likely scenario is bumping up the hp to 330 copying from the specC, thats nothing more than a retune

still for those who understands what the sti is all about, its hardly a comparison

Yeah really. IMO the STI looked much better than the WRX due to the fender flares but now the 2011 WRX will have them as well the STI has even less to differentiate it from the the WRX. I don't think a reliable 330 HP is a possibility from the EJ25 so I wonder if Subaru will ditch the STI all together as the performance gap between it and the EVO gets wider every generation and it's not like they depend on the sales or anything.

I don't think the SI gearbox would even come close to being able to handle the WRX's 226 lb-ft torque as the weak synchro's in those tranmissions can't even handle handle the whimpy torque of the SI's engine.

You can do that with a lot of transmissions but will they last in a production of thousands of cars past the warranty period? Probably not. These transmissions are more problematic in stock Hondas than the actual 5-speed in the WRX I find it extremely difficult to believe that they would look at that transmission when the STI's 6-speed is already a very good transmission.

March 31 Subaru will announce that the 2011 STI will be a sedan. It will obviously look similar to the just revealed 2011 WRX. Doesn't sound like there will be any major mechanical changes.

jsn
03-24-2010, 07:34 PM
I never understood why they don't just offer the STI in both, like they do with the WRX? That would probably help sales too as you can never please everyone if you just offer one or the other. Personally, the hatch has grown on me.

Not too sure what i would do if they made another sedan, i really like my hatch and would probably go another direction when my lease is done if they stray away from it... On the other hand if Subaru brought thier own version of the FT-086 i would most definatly pick one up:D

03-26-2010, 02:04 PM
Morph the WRX/4-door sedan into STi replacement.... and WHAMMY they drop the bomb that the 2-door FT-86 will be the "new" STi.

Mitsu3000gt
03-26-2010, 04:03 PM
I've never been a fan of the hatchbacks, so its nice to see the sedan looking so good. If the STi goes in a similar package that would be great.

I wouldn't mind seeing them put a boosted version of their H6 motor in there either.

The fender flares are the same as the 08 fenders but you would think that they must be unveiling more than a big spoiler. Boy that spoiler is 90's big.

SilverRex
03-30-2010, 09:35 AM
in order to have a wing mounted like that it may still be a hatch

the biggest question is, whats under the hood?

if you think about the 04-07 was really one car with a different face lift

we are only 3 years into our current gen.

I say its another face lift STI obviously now comes with a wrc wing.

But given subaru actually did pretty well post market crash, you never know maybe we finally get a surprise

STI needs 40-50 more hp, twin clutch transmission option and better interior. Anything less than that is

Will be nice to see the other changes though aswell, the choice of a hatch or sedan would be interesting, especially for those that had wanted a sedan originally.

Subaru's lease rates are good right now. 0.5% APR on a 24 month lease. Wonder if it's because they are liquidating old stock to make room for the new ones

it doesnt look like a hatch back to me. if you take a look at an enlarged picture, the back resembles a sedan, maybe even a two door coupe, but definitely not a hatchback.

Same way they dropped the price from $49K to $39K a few years back. You have to give the people more for less or same $$$ these days. A giant spoiler is not going to be enough on its own.

Look at the new Mustang. 100 more hp for $1,000 more. If Ford can do it Subaru and others can too :dunno:

The STI doesn't need more power to go faster I would rather it lose some weight and handle better than add another 30hp so it can plow deeper into the corners

I hope it's still avail in hatch.. when I had an STi, my biggest gripe about it was i needed more room in it. The hatch would've been perfect.

Subaru held an unveiling for a select group of people, but they wont officially unveil the car until tomorrow morning at the New York Auto Show.

So anyone at the event today, is under a embargo to not spill any of the details to the public about the car until after 8am Calgary time tomorrow.

"2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

What's special about it?
For the first time the WRX STI will be offered in two body styles: five-door and four-door. Oh yeah, and the big wing is back on the sedan.

Once the signature appendage of the top-of the line STI, the big rear spoiler, which was first made famous on Subaru's World Rally racecars, once again will let the world know you're not driving just a WRX. The new wing design, according to Subaru, also contributes to an improved drag coefficient, and to stable high-speed handling and zero lift.

Subaru says the car has also gone through a thorough and painstakingly detailed chassis development process that has resulted in heavily revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels. The carmaker also says that the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, which will hit dealerships late this summer, is the best-handling STI ever thanks to many miles of testing on the Nürburgring.

There are also a few styling updates. In front, the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI models feature sharpened bumper corners and a wider, black foglamp. There's also a new lip spoiler with three-dimensional detailing, a new front grille with a black grille inset and blacked-out Subaru floating wing. The WRX STI four-door features its own version of the polished stainless-steel quad-tailpipe exhaust, with tailpipe diameter enlarged to 3 inches.

Major changes to suspension tuning for the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI include a lowered ride height and new pillow-ball bushings in front and stiffer bushings for the rear subframe that supports the double-wishbone suspension — these improve camber and toe stiffness. Both the front and rear suspension systems employ higher-rate springs and thicker front and rear stabilizer bars than the 2010 model: 21mm vs. 20mm in front and 19mm vs. 18mm in the rear. (The 2010 WRX STI Special Edition already had the thicker rear stabilizer.) Spring rates have increased by 15.6 percent in front and 53 percent in the rear. (The rear spring rate for the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI is 18 percent over the already-higher-rate rear springs introduced in the 2010 WRX STI Special Edition.)

The new standard 18-inch aluminum wheels feature high-luster paint and weigh 17.6 fewer pounds than the previous standard wheels. The optional 18-by-8.5-inch BBS forged aluminum-alloy wheels are highlighted by silver high-luster paint for 2011. These wheels further reduce unsprung vehicle weight. Dunlop SP600 245/40R18 summer performance tires are used with the standard and optional wheels.

Power is provided by the same high-boost 305-horsepower turbocharged/intercooled boxer engine as last year, and it's still teamed with a six-speed manual transmission and Subaru's Multimode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of Symmetrical all-wheel drive.

Tweaks to the interior are slight, and include a new black-and-silver finish. Trim panels, the steering wheel airbag cover and steering wheel switches are now dark cast metallic. "

So when they said faststed STI ever they meant around a track since the engine, transmission and AWD system are identical to 2010. No DSG, no torque vectoring AWD................yawn. The rear end of the sedan doesn't look good at all.

IM disappointed that there is no power increase, but the changes in suspension and the lighter wheels sound promising...

well at least you get 4 door STI back

after all this goes along the plan that it takes 4 years for bigger change to take place, can you honestly believe SOA will change after 3 years?
