Hey guys just looking to get some input on my build. I would like to know if there is anything im missing or if my budget is way off. im hoping for 250hp but we will see. I cant decide if i need cams or at least cam gears to dial out overlap? Also piping will be fun because the GSR TB is located lower so more custom/ rare piping is needed so im considering an aftermarket IM?

Some items iv combined since i bought them combined. List:
sc34 (.63ar) $400 (bought)
intercooler (29X6 2.5in) $50 (bought)
injectors (650cc saturated) $390
wideband $200
3 bar $450 (bought)
s300 $400
piping $(see 3bar)(bought)
SSQV $(see 3bar)(bought)
downpipe(3in custom) $80
High flow Cat (3in) $100
cat back(3in custom) $200
manifold(log style) $140
wastegate (38mm) $(see 3bar)(bought)
clutch (ACT HDSS) $400
flywheel (ACT 12lb) $250
gauges (oil press and boost) $150
oil lines $50
fuel pump(walbro 255)$100
tuning $600

Total about $4000

Also this is being built on a stock JDM GSR with good compression and mechanical sound.

the cat and downpipe will cost more unless you already have the flanges and can weld.

Will you be using a filter on the turbo?

Does your piping come with all couplers and clamps and will you be monitoring fuel pressure?

Let`s see some pics of all this stuff :)

Your goals are realistic so this should be a fun build!

Oh yes. minor pieces. I have couplings and forgot to price out a filter even tho i will be running on.

Do i need to be monitoring fuel pressure?

Ill be getting pics once i start receiving the parts. I dont plan on building until spring so i want to have everything i need before i run into problems with parts missing.

Exhaust costs are low i admit but ill be using
magniflow 59959 3in cat which i can get for $100
Moroso 94055 as a resonator $100
and i still cant decide on a muffler.

You are going to want an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator with a guage on it. The reason is simply for added fuel pressure under boost. If im not mistaken, your stock fuel pressure regulator, does not increase fuel pressure with positive manifold pressure, it only references vacuum. You are going to want an aftermarket FPR so you get a 1:1 increase in fuel pressure with boost.

correct me if im wrong Etienne.

the s300 i believe is almost close to $600 and thats when i was looking for one.

Btw i have a p28 w/s200 if your interested

No, it does, and it's 1:1 stock.

10 psi boost = 10 psi over base pressure of 40ish.

Also, don't buy injectors for 400 bucks. Major rip.

Shop around.

well if i buy used injectors i would like to get them cleaned which = money so new, is peace of mind and hassle free really -wiring.

So im still confused if i need a fpr or not? if im getting 1:1 with boost i only need to monitor it right? and i can get a s300 for $~300.

sorry streethondas i would like to keep with my p78 for secondary runners. and i like the s300 because i can tune on the fly because i always want to tweak for conditions and minor changes.

But in general my build looks good to everyone?

Honestly for a stock bottom end turbo setup I'd be doing things VERY differently.

If you're gonna spend that much why not just build the motor and make more power.

injectors (650cc saturated) $390 not to bad, i found some 650's with aftermarket fpr/and fuel pressure guage in stock sr rail for 450... fpr is 100 easy plus guage.

your stock fuel rail and regulator can handle more power than you want, no need to upgrade.

The stock GSR bottom end is fairly resilient, I wouldn't worry about it or
about buying cams//gears @ that power level, you'll have a fairly fun car @ 250whp .
Im using stock off the shelf parts in my GSR head and they work fairly well.

stock GSR with 750 injectors, 3inch exhaust and peak boost t3/t40b I made 240hp at 8 lbs so you will make that easily.

Sounds like its going to be an awesome build!
250whp is for sure a realistic goal, im making 220 on a stock b20

Also, check out precision injectors, cant beat them for the price IMO

Ok thanks for all the help. I did not know precision sold injectors, they are cheaper than what i was going to pay so bonus! but i dont know if they come with clips so they may end up about the same price.

Also is there anywhere local or cheaply on the internet i can buy couplings for IC? i need a 2.5in, 2.5in 45, 2in-2.5in. i need to modify the piping i bought for a gsr intake mani (why did they have to make one so manifold different from the rest of the b series?)

The clips aren't a huge deal.
Just go to pick and pull and get any clips off an obd1 honda

remember, if it fits in your pocket its free :)

yes, yes it is ;)

Some good accurate info in this thread.

The obd1 injector clips will need to be soldered in place of the obd2 ones unless you plan to depin the stock plugs.

follow color for color and you`ll be fine.

Stock FPR and rail is fine at this power level but I like to see what the fuel pressure is doing while tuning so that`s why i'd recommend it. Just like a boost gauge which you already have on the list.

For your goals I'd look at some 440cc or 525cc PTE injectors, they are cheaper today with black friday too:thumbsup:

I already have a 94 gsr engine so obd1 clips are no problems. I just thought that they requires special clips. Is 650 to much? I want room to grow if i upgrade other things like a new gtx3071.

And lets just say pick n pull has donated many items to my cause already. ;)

Im running 650's in my setup i mentioned earlier.
LOTS of room to grow, i would rather buy injectors once, instead of buying new ones when i make more power

umm, what decent injector are you going to get for cheaper than $400??

buy these:

^ those are some nice injectors plus high impedance and fuel pressure would be almost unlimited potential but i dont 'need' them for my build. im easily swayed into getting top performance stuff but im not looking for full blown race setup here. cost>performance in this case. i think 650 RC will be fine

JZS_147
12-02-2010, 06:31 PM
yeah, rc's will do the job if you're building the car with a budget in mind.....but then again, what's an extra $150 to spend on some top notch injectors.

So iv decided to go with air to water intercooling I know that high performance cars run water to air intercoolers for better performance at high boost. anyway basicly i want to know what people think of my plan for an air water intercooler system.

So i want to use a barrel style intercooler and run the water line through an electric pump using the A/C as a radiator and the washer fluid as coolant. Now before you bash my idea think about the fact this will be cheap since im using stock rad and bottle. also i don't need another coolant bottle hanging out in my bay since i will using washer fluid (as a bonus it will be heated for winter time;) I thought about cleaning and using the power steering pump since it stock and flows more at high rpm, just what i would want with water to air inter-cooling, but with an electric system i can have it only turn on with boost/ high intake temps.

Yes i will be installing a low level switch in the the res. And i will be custom making flanges for the ac rad since the one side has a smaller connection.

so a summery of pluses/fails:
-lower intake temp
-less pressure drop
-less piping in general
-heated washer fluid
-more complicated system
-No ac (only need it for 4 months in Calgary anyway)

Anyway, i want to know peoples thoughts/ things that might go wrong.

I got my 720cc Denso injectors for 200 dollars.

Don't W2A intercool it, it's incredibly unnecessary on a street car.

Also you can't run water through a P/S pump. It'd seize in no time.

Where did you get the injectors^? New?

Used of course.

A set of precision 880ccs just sold on D-Series.org for $145.
