My girlfriend's 325 fired up just fine this morning when she needed to move it a couple parking spaces ahead. Now tonight, it turns over and will catch a bit, but the RPMs will only make it to about 500 briefly and then it dies.
I also noticed that the check engine light is on, does it normally turn off if the key is turned to 'on' and you wait a minute? Is there an easy way to read the codes on these things?

How many KM?
Have you changed the fuel filter? It could be a fuel delivery problem?
I can maybe help diagnose it if do have an engine code

The fuel pump sounds like it's priming fine, but I do suspect a fuel delivery or ignition problem. Could a fuel filter clog that suddenly? I think it's like 120K km. Any easy way to pull codes? Thanks!

It was the dreaded cold weather oil seperator failure :( $1500.
For those that don't know about it, be careful when driving your BMW's a short distance in the cold (there are a lot of models with this problem).
If your dipstick is rusting, you have a problem and should get the new part before your plugs, head gasket and PCV assembly all go.
