What do you guys think?NEW PICS PAGE 2!!!NEW PICS ON PAGE 2!!!!
JustinMCS
A move in the right direction. back end is a bit camaro looking. and 4 tailpipes all in the middle is a bit much imo.
benyl
Looks like an r35 from the b pillar back.

Has any corvette had that little window behind the b-pillar?

First Vette ever to have this, and to me im very suprised by it

arian_ma
This could go either way by the time it makes it to the roads. Keep the lines simple, like it's always been, IMO. This car is starting to enter "busy" territory.
ExtremeSi
I'm disappointed. Not much of a change. And not very clean lines. Would have been nice to see something different.
Mibz
I really don't like that back end.
Twin_Cam_Turbo
Way too many lines for me. I like our current Corvette, especially the Z06.
BananaFob
I think it looks badass!
jdmXSI
Kinda looks like it has similar lines as the DB9, just alittle more accented. The rear 1/3 looks like a Camaro. I do kinda like it but still alittle undecided...

KRyn
I reserve my final judgement until I view one in real life. Not really feeling the rear end of this car. As previously mentioned it looks way to 'busy'.
JRSC00LUDE
Top pic immediately made me think of a Celica.
Tomaz
Why cross-market the rear end with the Camaro? I don't think the tail lights have EVER been square/angled on the corvette.

Initial looks are fine up to the trunk. then I am the disappoint. :(

They are rounded squares on the C4, closest to square on a Corvette.

schocker
You guys are forgetting this is jalopnik so take this design with a grain of salt.

Yeah, I can't imagine it being that dilluted in real life. It's about the single only car they've had that they manage to improve while maintaining some heritage.

94boosted
Looks like the current C6 Front end with a Camaro rear end and a Nissan GTR roof :nut: I highly doubt it will look like this when it actually comes out in ~2 years
Darkane
Wow, not sure what to think.

I mean it looks good, but the New Centennial 2012 Z06 is the best looking vette ever.

This new Zr1 doesn't even come close.
Masked Bandit
The front end looks a bit late 1990's Firebird.
K3RMiTdot
ehhh... i like the current one more, but ill judge it when they have the production model out!
Kg810
Looks like a flattened GT-R

-Elongated hood
-Side vents angled more
-Roof flattened towards the back
-Top the the rear pushed out with the bottom rear pushed in

Lots of speed holes.
Cos
Wow I hate it.
xnvy
Way too busy, like the current Corvette's way more.
Ven
That car has ZERO class. It looks like a Wings West project ricer body kit on a C6 for some trust fund kid. Seriously, look at all those body seams and rice vents. I thought the new Vette was supposed to look more like this:

well, that would be one helluva step in the right direction.

Tomaz
I prefer the batmovette! Looks more appealing to my inner child. Lol
btimbit
If it was dual pipes on each side, rather than the four in the middle, it'd look a lot better from the rear. I'm liking the side view though!
Kloubek
I'm a Vette guy. Regret I sold mine, and plan to probably get another in the somewhat near future. But really, I'm not feeling this. I know it is just a rendering, but the proportions just look... wrong. The side engine vent doesn't at all flow with the rest of the car, the rear lights (as mentioned) deviate from anything Corvette has done in the past... it really just looks like someone went to town on their computer and took a guess at what it might look like, or what they wanted to see.

But I do *not* want to see this for the next generation. Being that the Corvette is really the flagship sports car representing North America, I would expect much more than this. Maybe not quite as prototypey as what Ven posted, but at least somewhat closer in that direction. Or maybe something that incorporates some of the old Mako Shark body style for nostalgic effect.

I designed this a year or so ago... just something to chew on. (Never mind the weird squished wheels. My resolution was messed when I made it):

Your design reminds me of the Stingray. Very nice!

Kloubek
Thanks! It was somewhat based on the Stringray...
Revhard
The look in the OP's post is not at all what I would expect. Should flow more. Oddly enough, i like the 4 tips in the center. I always thought the ones with the spaced duals back there looked lost, and the off-center spread 4 a little undecided. But, it's about the only thing I like. Too busy is right.
Less GTR, more DB9!!

somewhat based? ahahha

you would think with the big retro craze going on with their styling, they would make a new Vette that has very strong Stingray DNA in its styling. they kinda suggest the curves a bit with the C6 but its too subtle.. why not just make a Vette that looks as much like a Stingray as the new Camaro looks like the '69 Camaro?

the OP design ain't bad, probably not real. can't imagine them actually putting those taillights on the production Vette.

clem24
Hey Kloubek,

I see lots of potential for that thing you made... I am willing to bet there's a **huge** crowd of people that would love to buy an R/C of that and after you've made yourself rich selling the R/C (plus the awesome homemade machines you produced them on), you can create a body kit of it so owners can put it on their real Stingrays. You should seriously think about it.
Rat Fink
When they came close to going under, they ran out of a smoke budget for the wind tunnel so they clipped on mullets instead. Only reason to explain how that thing "flows"

Next wave of GM crap commencing in 3...2.....1......next bailout aproaching in 3....2.....1...

Maybe just a carbon fibre splitter and underbelly underneath to direct cooling instrad of vents. No side exausts plz... but Nice job!

Happening right now.
Darkane
So far:

Entry level car:

Carbon hood
Carbon Roof
99lbs lighter and 60% stiffer chassis

Functional hood scoop, side scoops for trans.

Race seat options, Magnesium frames

DI, Variable valves, unparalleled fuel economy in it's class

7sp trans, active rev-match.

....Looks EXACTLY like the renderings. Square tails..

Side profile looks like a 599 Ferrari.

This generation is now called the Sting-ray.

They also said the base model is faster around a track than the Grandsport C6, pulls over 1G, 0-60 under 4s.
corsvette

AWESOME!!!

The Jalopnik rendering from a year ago on page one of this thread was nearly spot on!

Looks pretty awesome, especially the inerior which is a big improvement over the C6. Rear end will take some getting used to but the overall package is great.

It looks a lot better then the renderings, although I'm still not feeling the taillights.

The only thing I like are the quadruple exhausts.

Not the fact it'll be the best new performance bargain?

I think it was a $55,000 base price. Fantastic for this caliber of vehicle.

Can't wait for car and Driver or Motortrend to get their hands on it

shakalaka
I am sure it is a great car for the price you pay. It always was I guess, could beat Ferrari's and Lambo's and cost half as much, but I was never really a Corvette guy. Just doesn't do anything for me. But the 4 tips in the centre makes it look pretty aggressive.
Tik-Tok
Wow... first 'vette I would actually own since '67. Thank god it's still out of my price range
corsvette
Buster
I think it looks amazing.

GM is killing it right now. I've recently bought my first one (in a long time, anyway).

The ATS is as good or better than the 3-series in V6 trim according to most journos.

The CTS-V has been worldclass for years, with the Germans just now catching up in terms of performance (interior refinement is a bit behind).

Now this?

Man I'm stoked about this car!

Me too.

They said we'll see a BIG improvement on fuel economy. The C6 had a mixed 26mpg.

This thing might get close to 40mpg on the highway :nut:

Kloubek
That's truly amazing for an engine of that size. I was more than happy with the economy of my C5.... it just depends how you drive it.
corsvette
I find the interior somehow similar to my first Vette...a 1994!
ercchry
supra mkIV interior...

and good work on the website
Team_Mclaren
Actually that interior looks brutal. Even in pics.

The malibu interior looked amazing in pics but its a pos in person. This looks brutal in pics so it'll be even worse in person.

K3RMiTdot
at first glance it looks like the f12.. not a bad looking car. interior is a huge step up from the old one
euro_racer
damn....thats not bad
Twin_Cam_Turbo
Looks better than what the renderings led me to believe, ill be looking forward to seeing one of these at work when they ship.
black13
ugh yea GM still can't design an interior to save their life. What is up with that steering wheel? Everything just screams cheap plastic.
And back end is basically a Camero. Although glad they got rid of the round tail lights.

Guess they spent all their money on the engine.
treg50
Damn is right, this thing is badass and I think for the first time SEXY...

... just saw the video: beautiful, modern/forward, LOVE the side profile, love the balance of angular and curves. Beyond impressive, at first I think I was surprised but then i realized I was surprised 5 years ago, it's time to give them credit, honestly Corvette has been kicking ass for a while now, so I'm just blown away. Great job!
A2VR6
Exterior looks badass! Not a fan of the interior tho. Overall, i'd love to own one.

?

The chassis is 60% stronger and 99 lbs lighter. I'd say majority when into development of that.

The engine is still tried and true pushrod powerplant but now with Direct Injection and Variable valves.

Darkane
Wow does it ever look good in that video.

The racing seats look proper.

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by the interior. For example the steering wheels looks like silver plastic, but I believe it's brushed aluminum.
Kloubek
A real step up on all accounts.

I was a little unsure with the drawings, but the video gives a better idea how it will look in person and I don't mind it at all. Even those rear lights are actually pretty cool.

Imo, Corvettes have always looked great. So to me, the interior improvement is the real story here. It's about time a car of this calibre has a proper interior.
flipstah
I think it'll grow on me.

I'm a fan of the iconic circular taillights though so we'll see how this version age. :)

The instrumentation cluster (& radio too) I love.

I'll reserve my judgement until I see it in person. :dunno:

I agree though the 4 exhaust pipes are a bit much. :nut:
msommers
The rear end is gross. For a corvette, the interior isn't bad. Like the front and side though.
DeleriousZ
Oh good. LED headlights. :thumbsdow

I think that's a great step forward for Chevrolet!:hitit:

I love how my post was deleted by a mod/senior member and reposted so they were the the first to officially post.....

I told you guys the looks of the new c7 would own the new viper...
I think they did a decent job with it. but if you look closer, those seats are almost the exact same as the older generation corvette. steering wheel looks cheap.

edit... the rims are horrid. and that side vent looks completely outta place with the rest of the car.

To be honest I like the older generation better. and when i compare this car with a 427, it aint even close, in my mind. I think the 427 is an instant classic. too many weird lines everywhere with the c7. the c6 427 is so much cleaner, smoother, classier. I dunno maybe its just me

btimbit
Wow... I just might get one of these. Looks quite a bit better than the original renderings, I was worried at first but I think it's pretty sexy. Still not sold on the quad pipes, I'll have to see it in person, but so far I'm thinking I could have one
Darell_n
Two more photos of the vette:

Edit:

I do agree they look a little different being all in 1 location though.

heavyD
I love it. I've always respected the Vette for it's performance but it's ho hum looks have been more part of the package than anything that could sell the car on it's own. Finally a Vette that looks like a must own based on it's looks alone!
Kloubek

Yeah, I think that is what he meant. I think quad pipes look sick, if they are 2X2. 4 across just looks weird.

hurrdurr
The Interior is meh, and the tail lights are meh, but a black one debadged?
vtec4life
Side profile is un real.

Rear end is a bit of a shock but I'm already warming up to it.

I love the carbon roof too.
Disoblige
If the R35 could improve on the tail lights yet still keep its signature look, so can the Corvette.

Horrible tail light design. Rest of the car looks great; I can't believe they butchered the back end like this.

Maybe we'll warm up to it like some of you say.
corsvette
Rumor on the Corvette forums is the Z06 will pack a 7.0L with 580HP, 7 speed maunual or 8 speed auto top speed of 210mph! ZR1 will have a s/c version of 7.0L with 725HP, estimated 0-60 times in under 3 sec and 1320 in 10 sec.
JRSC00LUDE
It's a pretty decent looking car for sure. Overall I quite like it but I'm not finding where it "owns" the Viper by any stretch.

The interior is a step up but come on, they couldn't afford a decent steering wheel? The camaro ass end really doesn't do it for me either. Overall, it is definately a step forward but has the typical "swing and a miss" GM styling miscues. Again.

Nice car? Yes. Viper owner as far as styling goes? Ha.

One would hope those panel gaps, etc. aren't indicitive of a production model.
Mitsu3000gt
Hopefully they've fixed the seats, interior, creaks/rattles, and automatic transmission. The corvette I rented for a week (2009) stands out as one of the worst vehicles I've ever experienced. It was quite quick though, when the transmission wasn't too busy shifting into overdrive at 30 km/h.

Sounds like the new 8spd transmission will be a big improvement over the old one at least.
Canmorite
Wow, very aggressive. That's quite a styling risk to take with that car. Can't wait to see it in person!

I kind of hope those numbers aren't true.

Those kind of numbers will push the base price quite a bit further outward.

The base vette increased 8-9k I think. In reality that's not that much, but think of it in percentage.

46,000 base C6
55,000 base C7

Over 20% (!!) Increase in base price.

20% Increase on a Z06 and THEN add the options pack will put it into 911 turbo territory.

Still with 580 hp, the Z06 might be a better value if what you're after are track times, mpg and high speed straights.

If that's true, then base Corvette in Canada is going to be $70k. I think I rather buy another car for the price.

flipstah
I thought I was going crazy; it is a 7-speed manny tranny.
