Is this the MB equivalent to compete with the Panamera, Quattroporte, Rapide, Estoque, etc.?

No, this is an entry level vehicle for Mercedes-Benz. AMG model (CLC25) will be coming for all the cars based on this platform. 350hp, 7 speed DCT, AWD. It'll be competing against the WRX and EVO. The other cars are A25 AMG (competing against RS3), and B25 AMG.

I believe the release will be backwards as well, CLC25 AMG will be available first, with the base cars shortly afterwards.

There's also a GLC25 AMG coming on this platform as well, which will be a X3 competitor.

Another interesting note about the AMG engine, it's a 2.0L DI 4 cylinder twin scroll turbo pumping out 340-350hp. It was designed by MB's HPE division, the guys that are responsible for the MB F1 engines.

HPE was designing the 4 cylinder F1 turbo engines until FIA pulled out, and a lot of that technology was transferred to the design of the "25" motor.

I'd love to get into the B25 AMG if they ever sell it here.
