so im wanting to palsti dip my whole car. but im not sure how well its going to hold up to calgary winters. lots of snow, really really cold temp (-30 to -40 C) and all the road salts. does anybody know how well it stands up to these conditions? id hate to have to redo my entire car every summer.

If you plan on rattle canning the entire thing, then I think you should think twice. It looks terrible, you need the gun to do it right.

If you use the gun then I think it should hold up nicely, it's a lot thicker then what you get out of a spray can and getting proper coverage is really easy.

Some guy in Edmonton here Plasti-Dipped rattle canned his whole Nissan Juke. LOOKS like SHIT. You can see where the paint runs down as he got impatient and didn't do numerous thin coats. Gay car to begin with and got even gayer with his shitty job.

yeah no im definitely not doing rattle can. im getting the pro kit from dip your car.com im just not sure how well it holds up to road salts and things like that. ive hear its good for snow and moisture, but the extra rocks and chemicals they put out worries me that ill have to re-dip it every spring.

If you prep the car properly and lay down enough coats with enough flash time you should be fine, it should hold up decent.

I saw a few Plasti-dip cars in Calgary and even if it was done properly, I found it looked super bland. Some cars just can't pull it off, especially curvier ones.

Found his car through Google. It looks worse up close. And the HID's make it look even nastier. I'll snap some pics of the paint job next time he brings his car in for servicing

Good luck. The canadian rep for dip your car is a total moron. He doesn't understand what customer service is and is probably the least informative sales rep I've ever dealt with for ANYTHING I have ever purchased. So bad I actually tried contacting the American guys to see if there were any loop holes for me to get a few kits that did not include the guy.

I saw a car that was fully plastidipped and it held up quite well.

It's not flaking out or anything as long as you apply it properly.

I've got the new pro kit and could be convinced to do another car.

The ISF is going matte white this weekend.

There are ~4 cars on Eurodrivers that have been fully dipped with spray guns.. they look pretty good. Two black, one white, one army green.

I saw the black Mk IV-V(?) Golf in person and it's the one holding up quite well.

Feels so weird though haha.

took 2 days. I would say 12 hours.
The snow and cold weather do not help at all

-make sure the car is 100% dry everywhere. the seals, the hinges, the wire looms, the mirrors etc
-make sure you have proper ventilation
-make sure you change your gloves on a regular basis

which gun did you use to spray it?

How long did you wait inbetween coats with the dip?

Where did you spray it? Underground parking?

Looks nice. I'm curious to see how it holds up :)

earlex 3500 with aftermarket needle.

atleast half an hour, and a full day between coats 3 and 4

in a heated garage with a circulating industrial fan.

there is no way you will spray this in underground, the fumes are rediculous and you would have the board on you immediately.

I would consider doing this for other people, pm me

I started spraying my miata with this stuff matte white a few months ago, said screw it and ripped it all off. Wouldn't lay smooth out of my gun without diluting it a lot...

Also heard some bad things about plastidip + clear coat from a few friends down in the states... Not sure if I'd do it again.

My paint was recently cut polished before this stuff went on, I'd say it definitely needs a really good polish again since then.

It'll be interesting to see how this holds up to the cold weather / slush / gravel though!

For those who are looking to spray it the matte black, keep in mind that the colour fades after a few months and you would have to keep re-applying.

That's your doing bro.

Take time to prep, and use the right tool for the job. Mine is smooth as hell

Good job Lo Pro!
I'm sure there would be some people on here interested in doing this for their car, but are too lazy to prep it properly and buy a kit.

I plasti dipped my blazer rims a few months ago. I'm surprised it has held up very well and I had it in - 30 conditions with lots of fort McMurray road salt

You should get the spray can when you do it and you will not have any issues. Try Dip Effects in Edmonton http://dipeffects.ca/
