Odd, I seem to have found myself transported to Mexico for this race. Imagine a sort of like vintage/more laid back Baja 1000  I'll keep posting pictures (gopro video to come) as the days progress. In the meantime, time for some more beer!

Random pics so far (another team from Alberta is here with a short-course offroad-ish truck, not a full on trophy truck, hope for pics tomorrow):

Mother of god (I'd die if there was ever an In N Out Burger joint in Alberta). Good ol' double double!

Moar to come, and expect a couple hours of incar go pro from the Rally Raid eclipse (and yes, it DOES look like a DeLorean lol!)

Good luck man, I've heard good things about the Baja 1000. Wanted to head down with a couple of people with a team of trucks this year but my schedule didn't work out.

Well Tim, I have a full writeup coming, but getting access to internet freely in Mexico is difficult when you are doing 18 hour days and fixing a broken car! :D

Long story short, we finished! First rallycar (of the new Mexican 1000) to ever finish.

I literally slept on the beach at one point, as the chase vehicle (the legacy outback) had to go down one of the stages (40 miles) on the way to the rest halt. It took them 15 hours to get to us, they did the 40 miles at an average speed of 10mph to not damage the car  As such, no sleeping bag or tent for camping, so I slept in my shorts and tshirt with my co-driving bag underneath my head for a while, and then went and slept in the co-drivers seat with my racing suit on as it actually gets cold at night near the water!

Two words Adam - Bowler Wildcat.

I assume Keith's old car won't be upto this task - what'da say you sell it back to me?

$20k and the rally sti is yours!

As for the bowler, that would be a sweet rig. Slightly out of my price range though. This is definitely an event that you have to 'ease' into. Never has it been more true that 'to finish first, you must first finish'. Considering a new grand cherokee (with ac!) set times good enough to be 5th overall, I think that highlights how a properly setup vehicle and a prepared team go a long way.

Results are here, we are in the "stock rally heavy" class or something at the bottom.

I type this from Portland Oregon, the writeup is still a couple days out as I won't be back until May 6th. I basically worked the past month straight of 16 hour days, came back last Thursday evening, flew to Palm Springs Friday morning, raced Sunday thru Wednesday, flew Thursday to Portland to spectate Oregon Trail Rally, and will be driving back on Monday. Been a crazy 30 days, I've slept in my bed 3 times. :nut:
