With how many of us frequent these meets, I figure this is a great place to make plans to meet other members as well as a place to share pics you've taken down there.

Was about to create this myself, probably skip chinook from now on and just hit up the Grey Eagle.

Looks like an awesome turnout last night. I was hoping to make it but was rushing to get one of the cars back together for tuning tonight. And wouldn't you know it, because of a scheduling conflict, no tuning tonight...so I could have made it out!

........this is the same group(more or less) that used to be at Deerfoot Mall? Tho by the looks of it, GREATLY expanded upon, looks like Ive got plans next Wednesday night now.

vote to merge beyond wednesday night meets with the grey eagle one? why not? someone bring a folding table and hang a beyond banner off the front of the table......makes more sense to join them rather than "compete" with them.

I agree, it would be nice to just stay in one place instead of going back and forth. Last night was good but parking was a nightmare because they had half the lot shut down. Probably would have been a few hundred cars there if not for that.

Not sure whats up with that poster, I feel chevy is a little underrepresented ;)

^^ Which is exactly why more beyond import guys should start showing up haha. ;) Now you know how it feels being a domestic/muscle car car @ a typical beyond meet lol.

There were also some cool old and newer exotics as well as a pack of WRX's, Genesis, 240's etc that were there later on :dunno:

I saw your car there, it was a cool meet. I spent a good half hour talking with a guy about his ridiculously custom Yamaha road king bike.

This thing, off his site. www.rcwilliamsdesign.cahttp://rcwilliamsdesign.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Slide1.jpg

Super cool guy, not surprisingly, it got a shit ton of attention from just about everybody... wow... Ridiculously cool bike, with air ride suspension and everything... just unbelievably cool. He did it ALL himself too.... I asked how much to build something like that, and he said around $40k.... fuck....:(

Some amusement was had by watching the older asian guy try to pull out in his grey Ferrari only to start driving over the curb. He backed up after being told to stop and then proceeded to stall his car once out of his parking spot - talk about embarrassing.

That Yamaha above - quite something and there was plenty of imports, just not necessarily the riced up kind or the ones with stretched tires. That old Mazda B1800 - pretty cool. The MG F was another unexpected surprise. Ferrari 308 - these are all imports, no?

Over all I enjoyed that GE meet way more then the Chinook one, I too saw that asian guy in that Ferrari, dont know if that was before the curb incident or not.

No "beyond" group mentality. This show they actually go and talk to each other and not hide behind their cars and lean against the railings of the upper parkade in little groups and talk shit about everyone else.

Not in my opinion..most people there are the blue collar types who will talk to anyone..I mean there is groups of people from different crowds but almost everyone mingles. Not unusual in the least to see a sport biker/hd guy chatting it up or muscle car guy talking to a kid in a supra

I totally agree. I've only gone one time and talked to a number of people from different backgrounds and everyone was very friendly.

Grey Eagle is very similar and I look forward to going again soon.

Wish I didn't work out of town or I'd never miss any meet.

For the record, I love looking at the cars at Chinook too, just have never felt that same welcome you get at other meets, but then again I haven't really given it a chance. Only been by a handful of times and I'm an older dude in a Caddy...

I think once all the construction is done the space problem will clear up.

08-15-2013, 03:06 PM
I showed up at 6:30 and had to park way towards the back. And the cars just kept pouring in after that. The construction being done will help spectator parking but they may have to think about expanding the show area. Which is a good problem to have.

And looking at the cars and numbers of cars there, really made me wonder why we can get a track right away for Calgary. I'm driving up to Edmonton tomorrow to get some runs in but it'd be so much easier to make an evening at a Calgary track rather than 12+ hours or overnight for Edmonton (not everyone is willing to do that).

Sorry...off topic!

There was a rumor Grey Eagle was asking around if people thought it would be a good idea if they built a track......hope that's an option one day.

The track in Ashcroft BC does very well that's owned by the Band out there .

I had this thought a while back.

Would be excellent to have a little drag strip out behind grey eagle.

I'd go all the time, even just to watch if my shit was broken.

That'd be an awesome extension of what GE already does. And they can do pretty much whatever they want with their land so it could actually happen pretty quickly (relatively speaking).

Freedom69
08-16-2013, 06:23 AM
I don't think it would affect what Rocky Mountain Motorsports is trying to build, so I think we should start a campaign to get Grey Eagle to build just a nice little 1/4 Mile Strip.

I'll be there on Wednesday for sure, so I think we should start putting the bug in their ears. That's how the Casino got built, people just started telling they should build a Casino and look where they've gone with it...

I'm going to make a poster to bring Wednesday saying, "I Support the Grey Eagle Drag Strip", or something like that.

never
08-16-2013, 07:58 AM
And Rocky Mountain isn't even building a drag strip as part of their first phase...so that's still a long way off.

It's just a bunch of crazy car nuts that just love cars, regardless of where they are built or condition.

I'll be there for sure, so look for me and I'll finally be able to say I met someone from this board...

I think another thing adding to the parking issue is that Wednesday nights are Asian buffet night and there is always a packed house for that. Hopefully once they finish the theatre and hotel they will add a few parking spots.

A 1/4 mile track at Grey Eagle??

Best idea I've heard!!

I would be behind this 100% Especially like mentioned above Rockyview Motorsports isn't even building a strip..

I'm there most Wednesdays! Come say Hi, I'll be in (one of) the red 70' Chevelles (Probably the less nice one haha)

Well, I'd say this is the start of the push that is needed and I think if they thought they could make money, they'd build it for sure.

As a group, we could pitch the idea, and sell them on it pretty easily. The size of the Meet now shows the interest and I think it would pick up steam very fast.

I'm making a poster to put on my windshield and maybe I'll post it here for others in case they want to do the same...

Also, there's a chance they wouldn't have the same, and somewhat ridiculous Rules that some of the tracks are now implementing for "Stock" class racing...

If its true that Rocky Mountain is going to be members access only and the fact that the first phase doesn't include the drag strip tells me that it's going to be geared towards owners of exotics with deep pockets. Doesn't sound like the typical Secret Streeters are a priority. If I'm even close to being right I'll be pissed that I signed the petition for something I won't be allowed use LOL.

I agree 100%, I'm not too upset that I signed though because it existing doesn't really bother me, plus it might be exciting to go see a race there every once in a while.

The more the merrier.

I look forward to a quality track or two, It will breed entire new generations into motorsports.

They'd go broke if it was members only

This is true.. Although it looks as if they are aiming towards contracts with the city..

About 1.8 kilometres of the track will be designed with the Calgary Police Service in mind

Young said his group intends to explore possible partnerships with Alberta Transportation and the Alberta Motor Association.

Hard to gauge how they will handle the situation, It would be nice if they made the space available for public rental! I would love to run some events out at the facility:eek:
