I am tuning my z32 on the street.

fuck me.

I am using an antique Haltech e6x unit.

It's setup to fire stock coil packs with the stock ignitor.

I'm batch firing the fuel injectors.

My mods are in my sig.

Anyway, maybe some of the tuners here can help me get this thing to make power!

I have a decent base tune already, fairly drivable, a little bit of popping and hesitation when I punch it. I figure I can tune most of that out by myself though.

SO some questions I have are, how much more or less fuel is injected when in batch mode vs multiport(NOT sequential as the e6x can't do more than 4 cylinders )

Anyone take a guess what my injector size is? In batch mode I shoot fuel for 5.92MS right where it crosses over into boost. I bought the injectors with the understanding that they were 750's, but it seems like I have to open them for longer than I should for that size.

Also, I can't seem to make more than 5psi boost. It breaks up after that real bad. At 5psi I am already spraying for 8.75ms, maybe I need more?

It is quite drivable right now, I just can't seem to make any power out of it. It drives nice right up until a few pounds of boost hits.

any ideas?

Have you set your dead time table? Do you have wideband becaus tthat Is crucial. Dont mess around just talk to toma. End ;) .

Yes yes and yes. But I'm in medicine hat.

With all of the mods you have installed you should drive to Calgary and have your car tuned by a professional.

I realize this. But I am a do it yourselfer.

I have built and tuned other cars, but I am still kinda green. I even assembled a megasquirt msIII for a mx3 project.... Anyway, any help or ideas? Google is cryptic on these subjects.

I'm trying to setup a street tune(18psi) so I can enjoy this car a little. It has been sitting for years, and I think I'd like to drive it a little more lol.

Trailer it if you can.

What are your pulse widths at idle. You should be targeting around 13:1 for part throttle 11.8:1 on boost.

While you can street tune yyour fuel ratios close getting the timing is a differen story. Really rreally should dyno. With all that cash in the engine I'd hate to see you mess It up

Ms at idle is approx 2.5

Its got a very conservative timing curve.

About my other qurstions too... Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure in batch mode it sprays all injectors every crankshaft roration.

That's fairly high ms for idle. Should be around 1.2ms or so. May have to play with some numbers. What us your afr at idle

12 ish...maybe i need a wideband recalibrate

That sounds right.

My 2jz with 1000cc injectors idles at 12.5:1 at 1.2ms

That halwin software sucks too doesn't it.. I played with it. Not very friendly.

Don't you want a near stoich idle? Or is it just not possible running very large injectors?

se7en

not possible really. 12.5 is way better. Idles like ass at stoich, and with large injectors, they are not linear at small opening rates.

The old haltech software is terrible. not too much scale for the maps either.

I think my MS at idle is closer to 2, but I am taking an average between 1.8 and 2.9 lol.

oh, and I idle at 1500 at 7"HG

Also if yo have big cams its hard to get a stoich idle. Mine sounds like shit at leaner than 12.5.

Hey RF! How is our mutual friend? I always thought we had similar views on things lol

Hey man question.

Have you looked into the ms3 pro to run this? It's pretty cheap and youll be able to
Run sequential injection and direct fire. Has a lot of bells and whistles too.

I think it's like 1200 with harness. With a build like that I myself wouldn't
Run it on such a dinosaur. Just saying =)

True Lol. But funds these days dictate what I get to use. Single income family makes large purchases difficult.

Oh, and I knocked her up again heh

OK I fugured out my problems. I have exactly 790cc installed right now. Running at 43.5 psi fuel pressure. Batch fire mode shoots exactly half of sequential. Gonna go fight with it again now.

Yep, change over to a new set. First, you wanna get all of your idle and part throttle perfect. The best way to get your part throttle tuned, is to have a friend drive the car for you. A hill would be really nice too, so you can hit all the cells, but you can extrapolate a lot of that too, and smoothe it out later. Have them drive the car, and you watch the wideband. Start in first, at like 1200 rpm, and just cruise. Adjust the cell accordingly. You can divide the afr you want by the afr you are getting, and that will give you a percent. Apply that percent to the pulse width. For example, if you want 13:1 and you are getting 11.5:1

13/11.5=1.130, or 13 percent. Lower the pulsewidth by 13% and you should have your desired afr.

Im not sure, but does halwin have a map tracer? Does it hover over the cell that you are currently running in? That should make the tuning a bit easier, otherwise, youll have to think a lot more (look at what your load is, and what the rpm is, and find the cell that corresponds with that)

Once you get your idle and part throttle all figured out, you can then do some math to figure out your fuel demands. There are many equations that you can do, that will get you close. By knowing that, you can plot a bunch of numbers into your cells in the boost part of the map that at least make sense, rather than having a bunch of crap. If you dont get that transition right, its just going to barf all over the place.

I can reccommend the course at learntotune.com. Efi basics will show you all those formulas, and how to apply it all. Its not free, but it does cover quite a bit of information, and give you some insight into the tuning process. That all being said, i have yet to grow the balls to tune a car, but im learning quite a bit.

Whoa! Thanks for putting all that! I'm looking into that site now! Gonna get toma to look at it too lol

Honestly man that would be the best. Biggest reason is that he can get your timing right. Atleast you'll know everything is correct.
