Spotted this interesting RV combo on 40th Avenue NW this morning - huge sleeper on this thing plus an interesting way of carrying a toad. Quite a different driving experience between the tractor and the toad....

I think those are the ultimate setup, but its hard to train a wife/woman how to drive something like that. Although I do get excited when a good looking woman hops out of any big manual diesel haha.

The SmartCar I can understand being part of an RV trip/rig (a four seater is smarter though... personal experience), as for the semi and trailer it really makes no sense considering the amount of trailer that semi could tow. Like using a shotgun to kill a fly. This must be a one time thing, maybe a drop off for someone.

You'd need a very specialized licence (air for a start) and some real experience to be driving this rig, so yeah a wife who drives it a couple of times a year would be an accident in the making.

it is actually a pretty common thing, esp in the states. but usually it is like a chevy 650 or ford 650.

It isn't a tandem rear on the tractor, so it isn't going to be able to support the weight or a normal semi trailer, but in order to support the weight of the smart car, and the weight of the condo unit behind the cab, AND then the tongue weight of the trailer, it is going to need something like the Volvo, not so much for pulling power, but for the load factor.

As for specialized licencing, you can drive that with a class 5. Depending on how it is set up, the most you are going to need for that rig is a Q endorsement. If there is hydraulic brakes on the rig, then you don't even need the Q.

The up side is, this thing probably pulls like a dream, and gas mileage has to be fairly decent.

What a complete waste... Not to mention that semi already appears to have sleeping berths... :nut:

They get approached about it enough to warrant a sign that says it's a private RV and you can't rent it. HA.

I, myself, would buy this:

Most definitely not a drop-off - this is someone's personal RV set-up. Been sitting on 40th Ave now for over a week west of 4 Street NW and it was around last summer as well. Got to agree that the sleeper unit on this thing is probably a fully equipped mini-RV in itself.

That is on there only because he does not want to have to hit the scale.

Saw a similar setup on July 4th weekend heading to the US. Had a smart car AND a razor on the deck pulling a bumper tow trailer.

I'm sure most of these guys put these units together just to get a reaction..good or bad.

Bingo. It's for the commercial scales, not because people talk to him

Should have bought a white smart car. :dunno:
