In the market for a new pair of glasses, and haven't shopped in Calgary for them before. Any places that have great prices? Or is everyone pretty much the same? Just looking for a pair of Oakleys or Ray Bans, nothing too extravagant. I'm in the NW. Right now I was just planning on going to Lens Crafters as it is the closest place.

LensCrafters is expensive for the 1 hour service.

I go to VisionQuest. They have one in NE, NW, CrossIron.

Travel a bit further down from LensCrafters in Northland Mall and there's Urban Optique where I got my glasses at. Ask for Cindy or Melinda, they are always my go to person for any prescription updates or adjustments.

I got fairly decently priced Lacoste frames from IRIS in Market Mall, since you're in the NW. Much cheaper than I was expecting.

What's a ball park price for a pair of frames and lenses? Along with the eye exam too I suppose. My benefits will cover some of it but wondering what to expect. I havent gotten new glasses in over five years.

$400-500 depending on frame selection and lenses. At least, for me that's been the ballpark.

I just posted a thread on a similar topic about a month ago. Cheapest with great selection is online at Clearly Contacts. But if you want name brand like Ray Ban then I would go to Visions in Chinatown - you can try on frames anywhere and just ask Visions to order it in and they'll give you a great price.

I also recommend clearlycontacts.ca - they have Ray Ban, Hugo Boss, etc. as well. You can always go try them on in store and find what you like and then order them, but I just use the online photo model thing to judge and give them a shot that way.

I haven't had a pair of complete frames under 500 for many years but I also pay extra for very good lenses, I always get Nikon or Crizal, but usually Nikon.

Lenscrafters was the only time I have ever had no name lenses and they sucked for vision.

Most eye exams these days run $100 and up.

And try everything on, you may think you don't like a frame on the shelf then it looks awesome on and vice versa.

I talked to Visions and they charge 89 for an eye exam, which is fine but an extra 50 dollars for the info I need for my contact lenses? Is this normal? I thought with a general eye exam they would give you this info.

Normal. They need to do extra tests, one of them is auto-k which takes the curvature of your eyeball and find a matching base curve for your contact lens.

BTW, this $50 may or may not include contact lens fitting.

Anyone ever order from these guys? Some great deals and selection on there, but looks kind of sketch.

Why buy local? You get the frames in 3-5 days and you're set. Test fit the ones you want at the local places then buy it online.

Was out today shopping, and I'm finding clearlycontacts is missing a lot of the styles. The other website had some of the styles I was looking for.

Are the cheap lenses any good at clearly? Or is it worthwhile to grab the upgraded ones?
