Local linked to Kobe case

A night of partying at a local bar has placed a Calgary man in the middle of the Kobe Bryant rape case. Wes Dawson, 22, spent an evening dancing and flirting with a blonde stranger only to later discover she was the mysterious young woman who'd earlier accused Kobe Bryant of raping her.

And now pictures of him kissing and grinding with the woman are on the front page of a popular supermarket magazine.

"It's kind of weird," said Wes Dawson about having his mug splashed over a two-page spread with the headline 'Kobe Accuser Parties.'

Over the August long weekend, Dawson was with friends at Outlaws Niteclub when a woman he never met asked if her friends could take a picture of them. Those photos -- taken after the alleged rape -- shows Bryant's accuser dancing, kissing and being licked by Dawson -- and landed Dawson on the front of the Globe.

"She was the only girl in the bar acting that way -- you usually don't have girls going up to you like that," said Dawson, who maintains the young woman was the instigator of the encounter.

Shortly after, Bryant's lawyers showed up at his doorstep -- and they've been in regular contact with him ever since.

"They asked for a statement and now they want me to go down to Colorado to testify at the trial -- I'm still thinking about it," he said.

"Nothing like this has happened to me before -- I was just sitting in the corner of the bar, near the back and she sat in my lap and her friends took pictures," he said.

Dawson also noticed the woman dancing around tables that night, and by the end of the evening she wanted to leave with him, he said.

"I just went home, but she wanted to do something afterwards, a party or something," said Dawson.

He hasn't seen Bryant's accuser since that night and doesn't want to. "No, I don't want to talk to her again," he said.

Bryant's defence team also has pictures of her trip to Outlaws, which could be used to counter arguments by the prosecution that the accused was traumatized by her encounter with Bryant.

The photos surfaced after an exclusive Calgary Sun story on Aug. 15., confirming a tip a high-profile private eye, working for Bryant's defence team, was in the city digging up information on Bryant's accuser.

Her trip to Calgary was also recently chronicled in the book Kobe Bryant: The Game of His Life, by Jeffrey Scott Shapiro.

Meanwhile, in court in Eagle, Colo., this week, the judge presiding over the case issued a ruling that would give Bryant's lawyers wide latitude to question his accuser about her sexual history.

Prosecutors called the defence's desire to widely question her sex life a "fishing expedition" and said they will ask the Colorado Supreme Court to strike down the ruling.

Colorado's rape shield law bars evidence being introduced at trial about the sexual history of a victim, unless there is a compelling reason to admit the testimony.

I'm suprised Yahoo! and CNN havent gotten this news yet.. you'd think they'd be all over it before the Calgary Sun or whatever would have news like that. I'm an avid basketball fan, and although I dont follow the gossip news -such things like the jayson williams murder trial.. and the kobe rape trial.. this does suprise me that a local paper would have news that Yahoo and CNN havent gotten to yet..

There's hundreds of kobe sites out there, and they all claim they have pictures of kobe's accuser... by now, its prolly narrowed down.. but its kinda hard to believe a noname from smalltown colorado would come up here and party.. and she works at a resort as some sort of clerk?

HEY! I stopped by the drugstore on the way home tonight, and I walked past the Globe that has an article about the Kobe woman in Calgary!!

It did mention that she and some friends were in Calgary in August or something.. at a nightclub.. There were six pictures of her partying with her friends, and with some white dude with highlights and a babyblue shirt.

She also has a tounge ring.

Well, the case is about RAPE, not ADULTERY. It's not illegal to cheat. And from the evidence that's been publically presented so far, there's no way that Kobe raped this girl. I mean, she went the next day to get a rape test done, and the semen on her underwear was from a friggin' white dude. She also had sex with 2 different guys the day before.

And based on her past and current lifestyle, I can't see how the hell she was raped. But they're not allowed to use this in the trial? Weird laws.

Is that what the court decided? I just heard that generally the victims past couldn't be looked at, but in this case I would have thought it wouldn't fall under the 'generally' category considering she's a whooore.

well, rape etc aside... I'd still like to someone in the sporting world get tolerated for once.. they've already let OJ go.. and Dany Heatley to name a few. I mean, its unfortunate it has to happen to someone that has talent like kobe bryant.. but if it all these atheletes get away with doing outrageous media dramatized things, it'll be bad for the game.

It wasnt like kobe didnt have sexual relations with this girl, because he admited he did. To what extent, who knows.. but the intent was all there.. kobe has a wife, a kid too. Rape is one thing, and adultery is another. It's not what the court has decided, but apparently the past sexual history cannot be used in court where the trial is taking place unless Kobe's lawyers can prove that it is imperative to the case - and i'm 99% sure that they should be able to do that.

It doesnt have to be kobe. But its kobe in this example.. its kobe in this thread. I'd like to see some sort of diciplinary action taken, regardless of who bites at what end. We dont know. And we wont know the real truth. Its easy to point fingers and follow speculation by reading "the Globe" and the "Sun". But at the end of the day, we can only speculate.

I swore OJ was guilty. I swear. And Im sure most were too. But there were also the OJ supporters too. The defense will do anything to throw claim to their support. Like, how racist cops and faulty evidence etc etc were leading this case to a guilty verdict.. but at the end of the trial, OJ was found innocent.

We've all been given the name Katlyn Faber (or something like that) and we've been given pictures too.. but are those even the real pictures of the person? CNN hasnt even posted the pictures yet. Its just a lil hard to believe right now. :thumbsup:

Gimme a break! Your argument lacks any substance - you want to see someone discipline Kobe? Why? He hasn't been found guilty whatsoever. The credibility of the accuser has been seriously questioned; first, the semen of several men has been found during the same time that Kobe slept with her, and secondly, her antics here in Calgary with a fellow Calgarian have been serious enough to gain the attention of Kobe's lawyers, as her conduct here has again become seriously questionable - licking, kissing, and hinting at a late night romping at night towards a perfect stranger has brought the court of world opinion down hard on her. It's unreasonable to argue that Kobe deserves 'some disciplinary action' just to set an example - oh yeah, i'm still not sure what kind of example it's going to set...

You have a point. Afterall, he is innocent until proven guilty. But like I said, Im just suprised mainstream media hasnt gotten a hold of this story yet.. otherwise, Calgary would be the talk of newstalk radio this morning.

kobe or not kobe, I dont think the attitudes of atheletes will ever change.. afterall, these guys are like, dramaqueens-american idols and politicians put into one. and with the attention these guys are getting, and the highly sensitive situations they put themselves in, they think they can get away with almost anything with little repremand. I'd like to see some sort of action being taken.. like, if kobe is proven guilty, at least he gets jailtime, and no like, 500 hours of community service or something like that.

Now, if you're a sports fan, or a kobe fan.. Im sure you wouldnt want to see your superstar go to jail or anything like that. And if this girl was actually raped, Im sure her folks and people alike wouldnt like kobe to walk away with a slap on the wrist.

Im not saying kobe is innocent or guilty. And I could really care less. But I say that if he's guilty, he should get his just desserts. Just because he cheated with someone, doesnt make him guilty of rape, and we wont know the whole story.

A much better statement here - if he is guilty, hopefully the judicial system won't allow a big market athlete get away with the slap on the wrist. It seems, however, that the opinion of most people, fans or not (I am not a fan of basketball or the athletes at all), is being swayed towards Kobe's innocence as there doesn't seem to be very much evidence supporting the alleged victims case.

now, as a sport fan, I'd like to see kobe not go to jail, and play the game. He's talented. But as someone with beliefs in the system of law, I'd like to see him pay if he is proven guilty.

Now, its true though.. I've been hearing about this story for the past couple of months, and the only places I've found pictures of this woman's face was on the internet and on this one paper. We havent seen this broadcasted mainstream yet.

Is it possible we're all just led to believe its the same person that is doing all the accusing, or is it just speculation? Very hard to believe this whole Calgary bit hasnt been plastered everywhere. I did a google search didnt come up with anything kobe case/calgary related.

How big was the article in the sun? I didnt get to read the edition with it in there, but apparently, there was an article that talks about the paper, the Globe.

I checked out that edition of the Globe, and it was like, a 3 page spread, with 6 or so color pictures of the supposed girl, two or three of her friends, and some guy. None of them have their faces blurred out.

is it against the law to not blur out your face, and put your face in the newspaper, even if you are just a standalone bystander? Like, the dude, can he file a grievance or something, because now he's somewhat related to the trial?

He could say something like, he couldnt get a job, or another girlfriend because it's put him to shame or something? Im not too keen on my rules here.. :D

ya i was just looking up Kobe/Calgary stuff on the web and i came across this forum thing. I am one of the girls in the pictures with her at Outlawz. I was super pissed off because no one asked our permission to put those pictures in becuase they were our pictures and they got $6000 for them. I had to go to Eagle and Testify on March 2nd. Kobe's Lawyer contacted me and my friends after that article in the Globe came out and we got subpeenad (?) to the trial. There was a lot of media attention ever since Katelyn came to calgary. My friends and I got phone calls every day since August from every newspaper and magazine in the states but we didn't want to sell our story because we knew Wes had a girlfriend and we didn't want it to get out in the open. Plus there was enough media waiting for us in Colorado. I can't say what actually happened cause i don't really know but i do know what Katelyn said to me when she was hear in calgary and that is why I am testifying against her. And I do know that it's about a 50/50 chance Kobe will get off because of the rape sheild law in colorado and because they're is a lot of stuff about Kobe that hasn't gotten out yet.

whoa..didn't think those pictures would turn out so big haha!! Katelyn is the girl in the first pic that is on the right with the black and white shirt and I am the one that is in the top picture on the left in the red. The second picture is Natalie in the blue and Michelle in the white and of course Katelyn in the middle. I can tell my opinion of whether she was raped or not but i can't tell you what i know after going to court and hearing some of the stuff...which by the way is craazzzzy. There is sooooo much stuff that can not be let out yet and honestly it will make your jaws drop. But in my opinion..pretending i didn't hear anything that was said at court..is that she was not raped. She's a little messed in the head and ya.......just stuff. Celebrity Justice contacted us the other day and they coming here on Sunday to do an interview with us. They offered us a crap load of money so were gonna do it. Our Gag order was dropped because the Colorado Rape sheild law was dropped in this particular case so were allowed to talk to the media now. The only thing is that it will affect our credibility when we have to go back and testify in October at the main trial becuase we took money which is considered buying a witness.

This is the 2nd time the globe has printed pics and info on the accuser. There's no law against posting it (freedom of press), but every other media outlet is not posting info on her sexual history, info, or photos for moral reasons.

The enquirer did print a story about her awhile ago and the reason that no one knew about Calgary and shit is because she was here under like a witness protection sort of thing. She came here hiding from the media and a lot of media didn't know where she was. we would get a lot of phone calls after she had left here asking where she was going next and i knew where she went but it was weird how no media knew, they kept it a really big secret. There was also a little article printed in the sun about it last august but calgary didn't seem to care. Calgary was basically the only city who could care less about this whole ordeal until they found out that a couple of us from calgary were involved in it. And the stuff that is in the tabloids is admissiable in court. It isn't supposed to be, but it is. I remember when i was on stand they had the Globe right in front of me labelled as evidence as well as pictures we had taken of her when she was at my house which was also labelled as evidence. As much as the lawyers (both kobe's and katelyn's) say that the stuff we know has to be kept quiet (like her sexual history and all that stuff) it's not true. They say it to us and tell us were under a gag order and we'll go to jail but they love it when it gets out into the media. All this stuff about Katelyn that is out right now is great for Kobe..half the stuff was leaked out was by the defense. Even if comes down to not being admissible in the trial, it will still somewhat effect the jury's decision what they read in the globe and other tabloids. p.s hey eric whats up

We just spoke with Mackay's investigator today because of the interview with celebrity justice and as long as the check is made out to "someone" who isn't going back to the trial in october then it won't be brought into court. So were safe...we checked it out.
