My work schedule is such that I can't take evening/weekend courses, so instead of getting stuck where I'm at I'm going with self study.

Any recommendations for study materials? I was looking at Lammles books but I'm not sure which to get.

The CBT Nuggets series on CCNA is pretty good.

You can find all the books online pretty easily too.

And theres also a guy at this website who has made pdf's of the content and its what i purchased and used last time I needed to pass

http://www.gns3vault.com

also get gns3 to help with passing the exams as you can do practice labs in there.

+2 for CBT nuggets... probably the best broad overview of material. I also use INE, but I don't know the cost since it's through work. :dunno:

I really liked Lammle's CCNA book, it was quite nice.

It has the usually Do I know this already test at the beginning of a chapter, and then a Chapter test at the end which is nice.

The new CCNP v2 book set I have does not have this, and it makes me use the exam CD to quiz myself.

Thanks for the info everyone.

The only problem with Lammle's CCNA book, is that there are a bunch and I'm not sure which to buy.

I think you want this one:

http://www.amazon.ca/CCNA-Routing-Switching-Study-Guide/dp/1118749618

Covers the composite exam and also ICND 1 and ICND 2 if you want to split it into different exams.

I have some CCNA books you can have for free if you want. It's a 2 book set, rather thick. I used CBT Nuggets myself and found them very useful (I don't like to read much).

Let me know if you want em.

Thanks for the offer! How old are the books? I think I will take them off your hands.

That test as been end of life for over a year. While they'll help you with some skills you could use in the real world, they're not going to help you pass the test. If your goal is to acquire some skills, go ahead. If your goal is to get your CCNA, I'll 5th or whatever CBT Nuggets. Well worth it.

I'll take some real world skills along with passing the test. I will check out CBT Nuggets. Thanks!

Do you have gear to practice on?

If not download GNS3

GNS3 is great, but I think Cisco Packet Tracer is all one would need for the CCNA exam, at least that's all I needed when I used it 3 years ago. Was easier to use vs running real IOS images.

I don't have the gear but I will probably buy it since I get a bit of a discount on the stuff.
