A friend purchased a 2010 Audi s4 in a private sale. It's just outside of their warranty and the transmission blew and 2 other minor related issues after owning it only a few months. All the homework he's done says its a 12k repair which he says is mostly just the part.

The trade in value gets reduced 12k by the dealer if he goes brand new and trades in the car. Audi told him to pound sand when he reached out to them(even tho it's a known issue on that year). The dealer won't budge on repair cost to car hoping he gets a new vehicle.

What's the best way to minimize your losses on this? Quotes from diff places came out to roughly same cost.

the problem is mainly the cost of the s-tronic tranmission... it isn't very nice. Tunedub is great and they have a shop rate much lower than the dealers and awesome guys though.

As for Audi, good luck... the dealer service department are not out to help you one bit. The Canada warranty department is a joke, waste your time and will eventually keep telling you to pound sand.

Would I sound like a dick if I offered him 12K for it?

It appears numerous used transmissions are for sale online around $3500.00-4000.00. Your buddy should pick one up and install it / have it installed?
