I don't play Fallout for the graphics. If lesser quality means bigger sandbox, I'll be ecstatic.

My only dilemma is, "is it time to buy a next gen console, or should I just buy on PC?"

PC master race.

Honestly, I'd rather a trailer like this showing in game graphics compared to a prerendered cut scene that you'll never know what gameplay looks like till months down the road.,

I bet you $50 that a sub-$1,000 PC will play F4 just fine.

And given the ease of updates, mods, etc. for PC... why would a console even be an option?

With big picture mode you could play your PC in your living room with a controller and still watch the baby.

Just saying...

I dont really remember FO3 or NV causing any hardware strain. Bethesda usually wants solid gameplay, scripting and atmosphere before bending to the hardware suppliers demands for luscious hair.

Its nice to see some colour this go, really looking forward to it!

I can't wait to have a dog in game, this is important, he will help with in game decisions haha.

Loved Fallout 3. Played it at lunch at work for about a year before I found pretty much everything there was to find. Couldn't get into New Vegas at all. Just didn't have the same "feel" to me and never finished it. Looks like they may be heading back to more of a FO3 type of story for FO4. Sure hope so, I'm sure looking forward to a good FPS.

Does anyone else get the impression that the graphics aren't really a huge step up from NV or 3?

That's not a problem for me but it looks more like they are just running a few more graphics options switches on rather than a new engine or something.

Maybe its just been a while, i have been spoiled by modern gen games.

I don't understand what people's hard-on is for graphics. Bethesda has never been known to push the cutting edge limits... I'd trade a bit of graphical fidelity for a better 'game' any day. Skyrim came out in what, 2011? I bet this game has been in development since then, as that trailer showed quite a bit of progress to me. If they started working on the game with today's knowledge of the new console gen engines etc, it'd probably look a bit better.

I actually felt the same. I barely got into New Vegas before stopping, but I think it's because I played FO3 way too much. I explored the entire world.

NV is more of a post-apocalyptic western as opposed to what Fallout 3 was like. The atmosphere is different, especially for the first quarter or so.

That said, I feel it's a stronger "shooter" in the sense that the weapon variety and customization is really excellent. Super fun to use different round types on different guns, add/remove various attachments, etc.

I'd encourage you to revisit NV and give it a solid go. I bet after 15-20 hours you'll be as invested as you were in F3 :)

It's a brand new engine. I think I need to see more before I really assess the graphics. They seemed to be on par with Bioshock Infinite, and that's okay by me TBH.

Bethesda's Todd Howard took to the stage to show off more gameplay for Fallout 4. He then announced that mods created on the PC can be transferred, played, and shared on Xbox One. Though Howard did not say it himself, the Xbox One version Fallout 4 will also come bundled with Fallout 3 when it releases in November.

FO4 getting PC mods for XB one, will come bundled with FO3

I don't either, but fallout 3 had pretty good graphics when it came out. It at least kept up to other games out at the time. These graphics look no better than skyrim which came out years ago.

But then again, if the graphics are shitty maybe it'll run well on my 4 year old gaming laptop. Bethseda games are best played on PC due to customization and console commands. They mentioned mods coming to console but nothing of console commands. I had alot of fun in skyrim fus-roh-dahing a 100 wolves i spawned off of a cliff :D

Exactly. The scenery is great, however look at the vault suit on the main character. It's pretty bland texturing. Before the press conference, I was secretly hoping this was a clue that FO4 would be multi-player. Sadly mistaken.

Hi!

I really enjoyed Fall Out 3 so I am looking forward to playing this game. However, with my aging computer I am debating if I should play it on my Xbone and 65" instead of my PC. My preference would be to have a mouse & keyboard however.

My current PC specs are as follows:
i7 2600k over clocked to 4.5
EVGA GTX 770 SC
16 gigs of ram
A couple SSD

Do you think this game will run alright on my computer? I am concerned this game will strain my older CPU and run like garbage. If I can only run it on low setting I would be upset.

That should be fine, I doubt it will be very demanding. I have a 2500k but I have 2x 970 but only 8gb ram. If you want to play it on your TV and only have the one computer, buy a steam link, releasing 11/10 and you can stream to your TV via your gaming PC. I only have time to play 1 game at a time (an hour or so a night, on a good night) and I'm torn between Halo 5, CoD Black Ops 3, Fallout 4, and the upcoming Star Wars battle front.

The truth about Fallout games. It's all about how detailed and expansive the game mechanics/world is imo.

SOAB, I was fully expecting to just hit play and a 10 min first time DirectX general unpack/install.

Maybe do a quick OC of the GPU while it's unpacking, I've come to realize that I'm fast approaching only slightly above mid recommended specs for most newer games these days :/

Yeah it was like 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 days, 1 day, 50 minutes, 4 hours. So accurate

SOAB, I was fully expecting to just hit play and a 10 min first time DirectX general unpack/install.

Maybe do a quick OC of the GPU while it's unpacking, I've come to realize that I'm fast approaching only slightly above mid recommended specs for most newer games these days :/
It is really dumb, same thing happened with MGS and mad max for me. Takes 30+ minutes to get into the game, how does that even make any sense. Performance is weird though, maybe needs some optimization, or maybe I need new cpu/ram. I have 2500k with 8gb and 2x 970 in sli.

After reading so e reviews on Steam I think I'll wait til next year sometime when there's a healthy amount of mods to complement the game.

It is awesome now though!

Bought the xbox one fallout 4 bundle with free blackops.

Played for maybe an hour? I'm hooked.
Have noticed a few minor glitches,.

Is it even worth trying the game with my computer specs? specifically the CPU.

I think that should work, I am only using a stock 2500k and have no issues.

Kind of similar with 860m

It's a Bethesda game. There will be glitches. It's just the Roxie you pay for a game so big and intricate imo.

Just save often lol

Fallout 3 was almost unplayable. Maybe when 5 is out, this edition will be good to go.

So I've linked two settlements together with the Local Leader perk (CHR 6 requirement) and have a ton of resources now. I have three suits of power armor, tons of money, and lots of supplies.

So naturally each settlement has 6 or 7 turrets each, with at least 2 heavy machine gun turrets.

I think I'm on the fourth story quest? Level 17... lol

This part of the game is an awesome distraction. I'm 36 hours in and the settlement building/scavenging has been an easy 12 of that. :)

Do settlement attacks get harder? I think I've designed things fairly well with only two entrances to the heart of my town and a ton of defence. So far I've only noticed I've been getting attacked by 1-3 Raiders and they're instantly killed. They always come from the same location too.

Kind of boring haha.
Guess I should go back to story shit.

I had two Super Mutant Suiciders attack my Red Rocket settlement. Now that settlement has six heavy machine gun turrets and four regular ones.

I want to create a solid line of turrets every 15-25ft or so from Sanctuary to the closest three settlements. lol

This game took up my weekend basically haha.

Got a solid 8hrs of play time in, absolutely loving the game so far. It's a blast.

I can agree that the graphics aren't the greatest and I have encountered a lot of glitches (most notably running to another location and all of a sudden being transported 300ft in the air to be dropped and killed..) but the gameplay makes up for that crap. It's nice being able to save every 3 seconds or so, and quickly in case you do encounter any errors.

How is this game on PS4? I barely play and end up buying something which then just sits without me ever using it again. Wondering if I will get bored of this fast like I did with the new Batman and Mortal Kombat.

I'm over 12 hrs in on PS4. I have seen frame rate drops hear and there, as well as my pip boy not working when I have chameleon armor activated. But it is still playable and it is to me an awesome expansion/update to FO3. The new base building has taken up a ton of my time as well as trying to get other settlements online.

As it is with any Fallout there is a crap load of stuff to do and build. I had over 180+hrs on FO3 and am sure I will have just as much if not more on FO4. I also suffer from picking up a ton of games and never completing them. I.E. Withcher 3, Far cry 4, Dishonored.... etc etc

What's everyone finding to be their main go-to gun?

I seem to be using the 10mm pistol and shotgun more than anything.

I'll bust out the laser rifle that Paladin Danse gives you at the start for the tougher enemies..

Any gun modifications worth getting right away?

I have a hardened 10mm pistol w/ other mods that does something like 29 damage. Ammo is plentiful, so I use it as much as possible.

I use a .38 rifle that does about 19 damage (and 189 range) that is heavily modded. This was awesome right up until about level 13. Now I find it's underpowered for most of the enemies I am encountering, though around Sanctuary and the top NW portion of the map it does just fine.

If I venture anywhere more southern or eastern than Diamond City my loadout is a bolt action .308 rifle (51 damage, 200+ range) that I modded so it is scoped and has a larger magazine. Ammo is plentiful for the .308 so this is what I have equipped when I'm walking around.

In buildings/smaller areas I use the 10mm pistol or the short combat shotgun (grabbed my first one at the National Guard training site). With the shotgun I modded the barrel so it's longer and the spread is smaller. Way better now.

Between those three I am able to take out most enemies without too much issues. Super Mutant Suiciders suck, but thanks to high perception and mods to my .308, I can usually explode the mini-nuke they're carrying while they're still holding it :)

I was using the Laser Rifle from Danse a bunch, but my cell count has dipped below 150 so I only use it against enemies that have a weakness to energy weapons.

Absolutely mod your guns. Do it as soon as you can. Why not? Parts are plentiful so long as you tag the resources you need and grab them when given the opportunity.

Also, as an aside... I've collected nearly 300 rounds of .50 cal ammo but have not yet encountered a .50 cal weapon. What gives?!

man I must not be playing this game right or too impatient about building up the character.

I'm ~ 4 hours in and I keep dying. I'm having a really hard time killing the raiders in ArcJet. I think I'm level 5-6 right now.

How are you guys spending your perks? Strength or Endurance or others??

How's your character spec right now?

Also, you might be a little earlier for ArcJet. Try letting Danse do most of the work. If you get a shot on them and he kills them you still get the XP.

Otherwise, try a few minutemen missions and get some settlements established. Easy XP that's good for a quick level or two.

As far as my points go, I'm currently
STR 4
PER 9
END 6
CHR 5
INT 8
AGL 4
LUC 3

At level 17 I have roughly 190 HP.

Also, PER really helps with VATS :)

Do you use your powerarmor for all the missions? I just used it at the very beginning mission with the minuteman and then just parked it at the sanctuary. Should I be using it for every mission if possible?

Sorry I got my missions mixed up. Not the ArcJet one. I was able to complete that one with Danse (thank God he's there), but I'm the Raiders in the Corvega Assembly Plant, the mission I got from the minuteman after they moved into the Sanctuary.... Maybe I'm too early for that?
