Currently in the process of building up a new tower that will be used mainly for photo/video editing. Been reading through past posts on here and the NEC and Dell monitors seem to be the popular options but these threads are a couple years old. Currently looking at having two 27" monitors however that can be flexible up or down based on recommendations and value. Would like to keep the price under $1k for both if possible. Appreciate any feedback on the below monitors currently being considered or suggestions on others.

I'm no expert in the latest and greatest monitors out there.

I have two monitors, both dell. A U2713H, and a U2410. For my personal machine which I use for games, photo editing, web, etc, I just use the U2713H. For work, I use both the 27 and 24 at the same time.

The main reason for using just one monitor for photo editing work is because when I use it with the Wacom (size small), it is only "mapped" to one screen. If mapped to two screens, any movement on the Wacom might cover a larger distance than I wanted. I'm getting old and likely shaky hands.

Also, I'm not sure if I will be annoyed by possible color differences between my monitors even after calibration. Theoretically, should be ok. But the U2713H and the U2410 uses different back lighting technology. Haven't tried.

One suggestion though, is I would look for something with 2560x1440 resolution on a 27" monitor.

For 2 X 27" monitors I'd go for the NECs personally. The EA line is still very good, but the PA line is their top line for photo/video editing. Unfortunately this would mean getting only one monitor vs. two.

I use one NEC PA 27" for photo editing and find the real estate quite adequate for LR and PS work. However I can see how having tools on one screen and a full size image on the other handy, especially with the resolution some cameras can achieve now. I personally think this depends on your work flow.

I've actually thought about adding one more monitor but for school purposes, not editing.

One option to up the resolution to 1440 would be this Benq:

BenQ 27"

Going with the NEC's I would probably step down to dual 24" and would be at 1080. With that in mind would it still be better off to go NEC? Would save some money which is a plus!

I think it would depend entirely on your workflow. For me I like all the tools close-by in place of real estate for the photo. In that regard I couldn't go back to something smaller than 1440, even bigger would be nice for working on portrait-orientated shots.

If I preferred a two-screen workflow or setup, two 1080's could work as the photo being edited on a full screen on one monitor is probably similar to the working space with tools on a 1440.

In all honesty, I don't know anything about those BenQ monitors. I quickly searched and that "sale" isn't much of anything. You can get brand-new units (not refurbs) for $35/each more.

Something I would absolutely stress buying is a colour calibration tool for the monitor(s).

Have a look at the Asus PA279Q. It's at the top end of your budget but the price should drop soon as they announced their 32" version in June.
