Basically a GT3 motor with a stick.

This looks like the one to buy. I wonder how much the track times will suffer without the PDK and the rear wing. Obviously driver expereince is the focus here, but will be interesting to see the outcome.

Also, from the article, "The prototype may look like an ordinary 911 GT3 but if you look closely you’ll notice it’s missing the massive rear wing normally found on the cars"

 I do not think you need to look all that closely to notice that the COLOSSAL GT3 wing is

Looks like the one to buy? Sure, if you're already dropped $1MM++ with Porsche.

How's your 918 and GT3RS treating you?

Or, since it's even more rare, and considering the insanity of the "anything with a stick" market these days, you can forego having the 918 and go straight to paying ~$500k for an R when it comes up on the secondary market...

They only made 22 original 911 R's, but certainly there will be many more this time around. Until production numbers and MSRP are released, who can be certain what the market - new or preowned - will be.

The way the current GT3RS is selling for on the secondary market, I have no doubts that this car will be the same(100k markup or more). The only gripe I hear about the GT3RS is that it comes with PDK and not a manual transmission. This 911 R sounds pretty damn special.

The GT3RS is ludicrous right now, but that car is also quite a step up from the GT3. This is GT3 based so prices will entirely depend on how many R's they produce. If it is as limited as the GT3RS, then yes i agree, prices will be ridiculous. At this point, it is all speculation but i would choose this over the PDK GT3 all day if they are similarly priced.

Another day another 911 variant :nut:

This one should hold it's value really well though. May be the last with a manual :dunno:

918 guys I know in the US have had their names on the R for months now and the indication they're getting from Porsche is that this will be the most limited of the bunch. Apparently the run is fully subscribed by 918 owners, and several 918 guys are peeved that they're not getting an R. Just like the majority of GT3RS', when the cars are originally owned by mega-rich guys, it takes a pretty big premium to pry them away... Fewer cars and all rich owners = big (big!) premiums over Porsche's arbitrary MSRP.

Sweet, another REAL car to add to the list

I recall reading somewhere that pretty much anything Porsche slaps the "R" onto holds its value incredibly well

Porsche doesn't just "slap" the R badge on anything, at least not 911s, so there really isn't a "pretty much" precedent...

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. It is a shame as that engine and chassis with three pedals would be amazing.

Porsche kind of screwed up when they slapped the R badge on the Cayman. They are priced pretty similarly to other non R 2012 Caymans and are so far behind the 981C.
