Anyone gonna buy one? The exchange rate won't help the price any :thumbsdow

Is it going to be powered by something other than an anemic 35 year old Volvo engine?

Different engine. It has to pass current emissions. They haven't decided on the engine choice yet, which is one reason why there's no pricing.

Cool!
Not sure if it's the best decision from a business aspect, but great from an enthusiasts pov.

I hope they put an engine in it that can reach 88mph quicker.

An Ecoboost 6 or any V8 would be a welcome addition.

Might as well throw an LS1 in it.

It's exempt from safety regulations. Read the article, it's a new bill that allows companies to build 300 replicas a year.

Probably not much different than Icon or Singer.

Shelby does the same thing. They sell a small number of cobras so they dont have to crash test them. They said the new cars are exactly the same (manufacturing and all) as the originals with exception of fuel injection. Not sure how they pass emissions? Also the Daytona is coming back

Anyone else feel like buying a replica with a different power train defeats the entire purpose?

Like buying a kit car :dunno:

Like buying a kit car :dunno: Depends on the car. I'd absolutely rock a Factory Five, but something like a Ferrari kit car doesn't interest me. I'm on the fence about this. BTTF wasn't as big for me as some others on here.

$35-$50K used, $100k new.

As cool as it is, this has very limited appeal as a collectible.

Not really, it's being built and engineered by DMC so it's sort of like the Toyburu.

"DMC"

Another factor in all this is its not like Deloreans were ever great cars...

So not original? X

Not fast or fun to drive? X

New drivetrain that is likely to come out of a minivan (lol) ? X

Built by a bunch of guys who just bought the name DMC? X

I see absolutely no appeal. Its a pre built kit car.

It only mean something for BTTF fanboys and car history buffs. It's very limited and I would assume the target would be 40-50 years old that grew up with BTTF.

You are basically paying $100K for a new, more powerful Delorean instead of $40K for a used and slower than Yaris one.

In that case they should make them all movie replicas? That makes more sense to me.

I was approaching it from a collector type buyers perspective or a car guy.

If you go to Barret Jackson and look up Delorean, it's not a good investment at all for the original ones from the 80s.

I don't know how this new run of 300 would be good investment.

It's mostly original. The current DMC bought all the parts and tooling from the original DMC years ago. They've been selling replacement parts for years for DeLoreans and have been making replacement parts as well.

As for fast, they're looking at 300-400hp drivetrain in the car, with upgraded suspension, brakes and wheels to handle it.

If I had the cash I would grab one. People pay crazy money for much worse cars, if it has modern updates that make it a great driving car, why not?
