Mercury Marine (Who in the world is Mecury Marine) launched their concept in 2014, a dual overhead cam, 4 valves per cylinder, LS. Yup thats wasn't a typo. Dual overhead cams, in an LS. The Quad Cam setup allows the engine to breathe significantly better, resulting in more horsepower. Which is all any man is looking for! The company started with an LS7. They then increased it's displacement to a mammoth 9 liters.

With new heads and 2 turbos this thing is cranking out some serious horsepower. 1,650 to be exact. Did someone say Bugatti killer, because with those number I see an actual contender. We are coming in at just a tad over 206 horsepower per cylinder. That’s 1000 full horsepower than a brand new Corvette Z06. This beast can go in practically anything you can think of: a boat, a car, an awesome motorcycle?. It will be interesting to see who does what with this thing!

This article is garbage. They are mixing together multiple Mercury Marine projects and calling them the same thing.

First, the 1650hp 9L engine is the 100% Mercury Marine designed and built engine that has been around for several years. This is true, but has nothing to do with an LS. Here is a good article on the QCV4 http://www.enginelabs.com/news/mercury-racing-courting-crate-engine-market-with-1650-horsepower/

Second, Mercury has developed DOHC heads for an LS engine, but not a 9L LS7....How would you do a 4.567" bore on 4.4" bore spacing??

Here is real info about the heads: http://www.enginelabs.com/news/mercury-racing-set-to-release-32-valve-head-for-ls-engine/
