Hey guys. I haven't been on here much lately but I recently had the option to purchase a 2001 Honda S2000 with 247,000 kms on it and I thought who better to ask but Beyond members. the car Has been in 1 accident under 2K and the paint/interior are in the shape of a s2000 with low kms. It has new rubber and has had recent maintenance. The kms scare me because I don't keep cars too long and with that high of kms I may need to enjoy it longer.

My question is would you consider a 250k -300k Honda S2000 or would you pass. The unit I can get is for $7000

If I did buy that car I would go on jdmsource and see what a new motor/gearbox costs and make sure I can afford to replace the gearbox if/when it pops.
If the engine holds out you have spare cash saved up that you can spend when you sell the car.

AP1s have valve retainer issues that should be solved by replacing with AP2 retainers. Pretty much anything for the car besides fluids and filters are $$$.

Yes I agree. I previously owned a ap1 but it was a 2000. I loved it and can't seem to find a replacement that I enjoy driving as much. I'm just not to excited with the kms. I can't find a AP2 for less that $15,000 in good condition. I'm just not sure if want to spend that much.

Buy it, that's the cheapest s2k I've ever heard of. You could probably sell it for what you bought it for if you decide to sell it down the road.

High kilometers, accident, repainted panels? Come on man, sounds like a disaster to me, even for $7K by the time you meddle with it up to your standard, just grab another better condition AP1

I have owned a lower km AP1 and test driven a higher kilometer 160K AP1 and I can tell the difference.

Everything feels "loose" on a higher KM S2000.

That's decent. The front page article on s2ki is about how more members are reaching the 200k mile mark these days.

I think that is a great price for that car. S2000's seem to have caught the attention of collectors and old dudes, so the prices seem to be going up and the inventory on the market is low.

For what it's worth, last week I sold my very clean 2009 with 22,000 km's for $33,000.

No way in heck my old car is 4.5 times the value of what you are looking at picking up. Seems like a no brainer assuming the motor and transmission are ok. Everything else seems to be a simple fix.

Did you have trouble selling for that price?

Based on the condition of S2k's selling for $20-$25k I would have though yours would have been worth more.

I had 3 buyers that I considered to be very interested in the car. 2 of them offered 32k and one offered 33k which I took.

I also had an offer which would have worked out to close to 34k but they were from the US and I just didn't want to deal with a US buyer and the potential hassles for an extra 1k.

20k - 25k seems to be the sweet spot for S2000's. Once you start asking > 30k, your pool of potential buyers seems to drop off considerably.

There are a few guys around who are looking for low mileage clean ones and willing to pay top dollar for one and then a bunch of guys trying to offer you 25k.

I hear yea! That's too bad you sold it, should of kept it around.

Mine doesn't get driven often enough but I still try to get it out a couple times a week, this weather sure doesn't help. I might roll over 18k km's this summer if the rain goes away

I never drove it. Had it out twice this year and it was more of a hassle keep around. Bought an old M3 to piddle around with instead. At least I can stick my daughter in the back for ice cream runs.
