hi guys, i am currently building a silvia and looking to buy some jdm parts, but the market for motors and such has a large amount of inflation right now. i spoke to a fella in japan that said he can get motors for 800 usd and source whatever parts needed from the local market. so i had the idea to order a 20 ft container and fill it with a bunch of japanese goodies and am gauging interest if anyone in the area would be interested in joining the venture to save on shipping. 1 container fits 10 motors plus an array of aero and body parts, which can be sourced new or used.

I'd be interested in a 02-03 sti front clip. With or without driveline.

Or else just a complete v7/8/9 ej207 engine. Or again, entire driveline.

I'd assumed that getting your own motor, after shipping, customs, taxes, etc etc ,isnt really worth it.... :dunno:

Wonder where OP ran off to :( I have zero interest in setting everything up myself, but would be willing to help with everything once its in country.

Hey guys the fella in Japan is named hugo Yamasaki. I've got a bit of interest so far but not quite enough to justify. I am waiting to
Hear back from a friend that works at a shipyard in van about ocean freight costs and customs etc

Here are some rough numbers :

Shipping to port : 4000
Customs brokerage 1% of shipping
Gst 5%
Tariffs 8%
Shipping to
Calgary ?

So on 10,000 worth of goods that comes down to 6000 shipping or 60% of local market price. Assuming a full container for a motor that's 1000 usd that comes out to 1600. Which ends up being 1000 less than buying one from a local shop. Also I want to make it clear I'm not looking to profit off this venture.

You should look at chatting with Will @ JDM Connection. He helped me import my 1995 STi oh so many years ago.

That shipping price seems high, considering I can get a 20' seacan full of tires shipped from China for about $1700.

i'll send a list over to my guy and see whats available. currently researching more on export red tape from japan. looks like motors need to pass a couple tests before they release them
