Got the final pictures from Buster's reno. I have to hand it to that guy...he said he was going to do the GC'ing himself and I was skeptical. But this job ended up smoother than a lot of my other jobs for full-time GC's. What he had to do, within the time constraints presented, it was a very smooth job. I gave him shit for bringing in the carpet guys before us, but he didn't have much choice, and in the end it hardly phased me and my son at all. Setting up our big saw in the huge triple car garage was awesome.

Any idea price-range for that kind of renovations?

I'll let Buster answer that for you if he wants.

Wow. That is fucking sweet. What a view too. Completely OK with someone staring at my junk just to enjoy that view in the tub haha.

Very impressive!

2 questions though:

1. Why do all the cabinets/counters end before the wall? Is that a new in-style thing I don't know about?

2. Is the control panel for in-floor heat? If so, what brand and where is it from? My control for my in-floor heat looks ancient (it is 12 years old) compared to that and definitely needs an upgrade!

1. Complete, pre-built cabinets with countertops. About a 1/4 of the cost of custom built-ins. And still look elegant.

2. Schluter® Ditra Heat Touch Screen Programmable Thermostat. (http://www.schluter.ca/schluter-ca/en_CA/Floor-Warming/Schluter%C2%AE-DITRA-HEAT-E-RT/p/DITRA_HEAT-E-RT) $240

What do I need to check to make sure this thermostat would work with my existing in floor heating?

I can check with my rep for you. I'm pretty sure their official response will be "we don't support it", but as long as all the wiring specs are within the same specs as Schluter's and you have a thermostat probe, it would work.

I would probably want a tad warmer color on the walls personally but everything else is top notch. very jelly indeed.

What do you do for having a window in the shower?? Looking at a house that is going to have the same issue.

I don't think there's a window in the shower, it's just the reflection of the bath tub window in the glass surround.

I thought the before pics were your work... thinking jeeez Dave has lost the plot.

Nice work on the afters. Is there lighting built into the mirrors?

In 2036 you'll be replacing it all with the Robot Auto-Scrub 3000.

I'd love to have a window in the shower. Natural light while showering, that's the shit. If you're worried about privacy, just add some frosted window film.

Yeah like Blitz said...that's just a reflection. But there's not an issue with having a window inside a shower. You want to have a window that's in good shape though. No leaks in it's integral parts.

Thanks! Aren't those fuckin sweet?!!! LOVE large format and line drains  The designer had spec'd a 12x24 for the entire bathroom floor. Boooo :thumbsdow

I talked Buster out of that idea.

Thanks!

i did the a bunch in the house, so hard to pull out just the bathrooms. Just off the top of my head for both bathrooms:

- plumbing was $20k or so. but that included a full polyB repipe in the house. that figure also includes all of the fixtures, the bathtub, the Moen digital shower system, etc

- electrical and the bathroom light fixtures were probably in the 4k-5k range, but I splurged on some things like the Foscari Gregg lights above the tub.

- Tile work was in the 16k - 18k range, if memory. But again, that's with some "upgrades" like the accent wall glass tile, which are individual tiles and came paper faced. Took brad a long time to do just that wall. I think it was about 3k in materials for just that wall?

- dont know what the drywall and paint came out to.

- My designer charged me in the 5-10k range for the house, but that was mostly bathroom, and the initial work done for the new kitchen. Investing in a designer is worth it.

1. This was primarily a cost/quality question. I did get quotes from cabinet people in town.

Premade ones like this are quite high quality relative to the cost of custom. The style is obviously different, as these are intended to look more like furniture

2. I think Dave answered this. But the controls are much nicer than the regular ones. The touch screen is high quality. I would not even consider doing tile like this without heat. The non-heated parts behind the tub are much less comfortable.

The space feels pretty warm/spa-like when you are in it. I still need to get some decorations up, get the towel shelves, and that kind of trim in. I wanted to add color with accessories, rather than walls. That's pretty much a theme in the whole house. I went basically white everywhere.

Here's my reno thread, which needs an update.

Thanks.

Large format in the actual shower is something I had really put much though into. Now that I've got it, I'm never going back. Standing on a big slab of stone without a drain, or any real grout lines under your feet is awesome.

Thanks Christ I went down further than the before pics!!! I see your jobs Dave and I am always impressed so I never really read to much before scrolling to the pics and and my first thought was "WTF is this shit??? No way Dave did this! It looks like my Grandma's place!" Haha! I was seriously concerned!

Looks wicked!!! As always, damn fine work Dave!

I can't recommend Dave highly enough.

The workmanship is top notch, obviously. Attention to detail is excellent - getting the unusual corners or stuff that takes experience makes all the difference for tile guys.

But I was most impressed with Dave's willingness to offer suggestions on install, product selection, feasibility and such. He helped me avoid a couple of mistake, and also helped me save a few bucks here and there. (The larger tile was his suggestion, for instance. Same with the low "curb" on the shower.). He also knows all the newest tech, techniques, materials, etc.

Highly, highly recommended.

Just make sure you put your carpet in after the tile...lol

Agreed. If someone had just told me about it I would have thought who cares it's a shower floor. But it actually is really nice. We don't have it in our place currently but it will be a must have when we get around to our master bath.

Also, younger hungover me was very happy to have a built in shower bench, better than sitting on the shower floor. Now old stiff muscle me likes it even more.

Frankly, I think that younger-me would have made more use of the bench and two shower heads.

So much better then what I have, but it was impressive back in 2014 when I got it and it still works perfectly so I guess I can't complain:
