What is the best deal on firewood these days.
I don't have time to go cut my own this year.

Engineered air down off highfield puts piles of crate wood out almost daily. And its free. Also the at the back of the Southland drive Canadian tire, there was a box of free firewood there all summer.

Or go to a brand new subdivision where new houses are being framed. Pick up all the scrap 2x4 and 2x6. Perfectly clean, kiln dried firewood. Only downside is it burns super fast.

If you don't mind drying and seasoning yourself, burnco or the various Kijiji pirates are decent.

If you want it already dry and clean, wood depot .

I used to give pallets to people when i worked in 'struction.
Might be able to scoop a few if ya ask someone on a site. That or well.. ive got some WOOD ill give ya. Hyeh hyeh hyeh.

I think it depends on what your purpose is and what you are looking for...

if you want spruce untreated lumber, sure any old pallet will do, but if you are using it to heat your house using a stove, or want something nice burning and well scented, you'd want to look at many different options

get a mix... fir/larch/spruce... keeps it affordable and you get the merits of each

Last load I had was birch and was very happy with it.

I find spruce pops and spits too much, cedar burns really hot but I found I was going through it really fast. Birch seemed like a good balance. Those are the only three I've tried though.

Got a mix of pine, some birch, few pieces of applewood, larch etc...

Is the wood seasoned? And is it a flat rate $100? I'm thinking of bringing the suburban with a tarp lining the back. I don't think it's quite 8' long though.

Not sure, we buy it for the firepit in the backyard. Seems quite dry, splits easily enough. As you load your own vehicle/whatever, you can pick what you want although the owners are somewhat particular about hardwoods (except poplar) and good burning woods being taken - we managed to load quite a bit of birch and some miscellaneous hardwood the last time we went. As for pricing, they're quite reasonable - I think I got quite a bit more than I paid for, I took less than a half ton load and they charged me an equivalent amount.
