As all of you know, I got rid of my Turbo Brick wagon and was in need of a daily driver.

I looked around the city and spoke to various salespeople. None were as helpful as the folks at Distinctive Collection.

They helped me get a vehicle that fit my wants and prepped it very meticulously.

Their facilities were on-point and would definitely do business with them again.

Special thanks to Michael Li, who helped me find this 2010 E550 4Matic!

I've always found these to be my favourite looking Benz, gorgeous car! But I hope you have warranty...

On the bright side the engine is bulletproof (old E55 engine prior to supercharging) and the 4matic setup is ok reliable. When it's not, and really luck of the draw, it gets pretty pricey. I wouldn't have a problem owning this car out of warranty. The facelift 550 with the twin turbo v8 is more sketchy to own post warranty.

When I got offered extended warranty of the same duration, it showed the reliability and opex cost of the E550 ($2300) vs. E60 M5 SMG ($8000)

Nice ride! Just noticed the stand up hood ornament lol, MB has to be the last car with it, thought those went out years (decades) ago.

I assume a 2011 S550 4matic would be pretty much on par maintenance wise with this E550?

2300 for a transmission is peanuts. If I had any sort of semi exotic car, DC would be on my short list for maintenance places as well.

Once I achieve my redneck dream of a corvette it sure as shit wouldnt be going to a chevy dealer ha.

Let me know if the post sale service is lacking. Scott is my childhood friend.

How'd the GT350R look? ;)

It's like a library compared to the Mini or the LR. Then again, a Micra is quieter than those two.

It's weird how the maintenance interval are in days vs. km's.

S550 has a lot more gadgets that are prone to breaking down. Regardless, for both cars the big ticket item is the airmatic suspension, that's pretty much a replacement every 100k km's or so.

It's both. 20k kms, or 1 year, whichever is sooner. Since it's been sitting on a lot for sale and not racking up km's, you're seeing the days number in the service reminder.

^What Rage said about service. Keep driving it and if you put enough km's you will see that next service required sign change from days to actual km's.

Thanks, peeps! Once Service A comes up, I'll go to Distinctive to keep you posted on service performance.

If it's not to my liking, there are options (i.e. Alpine Autowerks).

These W212s were basically the mainstay for the majority of taxi cabs and Uber in Holland and Belgium that we took visiting last year, all diesels. Amazing ride, from the back :D

Congrats on the 'winter beater'!

I wish I cared about my life choices as much as I care about yours. When you got laid off my heart hurt haha.

This is getting weird.

I had a one hour conversation with my brother about your car choice. He has had your car. He assured me it will be fine.

You'll just have to forgo any AMG bits. I also think they had the hood ornament and blank grille on the C300 but they axed it for 2017 I believe...

Still to this day, the vehicle retains its elegance.

Hell, first scene of Miami Vice had what...a W126. The whole show highlighted it (including the Mercedes SEL 1000).

I need another garage and a lift to add a w126 to the collection but man I will.

Bottom line

ALL AGREE OLD MERCEDES ARE COOL.

Im quite fond of the w126. My parents brought a SEL560 home when I was 12? We owned that thing till last year. It was running on 7 cylinders for the last decade. What a tank. Too bad my brother ruined it.

Zero elegance left haha.

Well, that time in my life definitely sucked and it's a cyclical thing. Just gotta figure out how to ride the wave.

It's the same as university; ride the bell curve and you're gold. :guns:

I am still in love with this generation S-class, but for me it is all about the big body coupe, C126 all the way.
