Have you ever wanted to run your car on the full road course at Racecity Speedway ???
Every year, The Calgary Sports Car Club hosts a Solo 1 Series at Race City Speedway.

Solo 1 is a WCMA sanctioned speed event in which lap times are the determining factor. Events are run on the full road course at Race City Motorsport Park. Due to the race speeds attained in Solo 1, WCMA safety guidelines on equipment and procedures are followed. An event consists of a 15 minute warm-up session and 4 timed runs. Each timed run comprises one warm up lap, four timed hot laps and one cool down lap. There are up to 4 comparable cars on the track at once during the timed runs - evenly spaced out so that no passing occurs. Cars are classified according to WCMA guidelines and drivers only compete against other cars in their class. At the conclusion of the series, trophies are awarded to the successful drivers in each class.

The 2004 Solo1 Series consists of a two-day school and 5 full-day events. At each event we have the full road course for the day.

Safety Equipment:

Seat Belts: All cars competing must be equipped with a minimum four-point harness with approximately a three inch lap belt and three inch shoulder harness meeting the ISO standard. A two into one shoulder harness is not acceptable.

o Roll-Over Protection: Vehicles with fold down tops or completely removable tops must have roll-over protection. This also applies to vehicles in modified classes as well as vehicles using full race non-DOT tires. (refer to Section 10.5 of the WCMA rule book at www.wcma.ca)

o Helmets: Helmets must have a minimum rating of Snell 95.

Licensing: CSCC membership and a valid WCMA competition license are required to compete in the Solo1 series. Participation in the Solo 1 School is mandatory for all competitors. Competitors not already possessing a valid WCMA license qualify for one upon completion of the Solo1 School.

Cost: Cost for the series is $575.00 with a deposit of $250.00 due by March 31, 2004. This covers the two-day school, the five events and a WCMA license. Competitors are responsible for CSCC membership fees and pre-season tech at Guyons. There is a transponder rental fee of $15 per event unless participants provide their own (contact John Herbst for purchasing details).

Cheques are to be made out to CSCC, and mailed to John G. Herbst, 3 Canova Road SW, Calgary, AB, T2W 2K5, phone: 281-2688.

For further information contact the Solo1 Director Brent Thorkelson at 931-4835. For tech related questions contact Gordon Galloway at 257-1615. Also refer to the CSCC web site :
