Heading to Vancouver and looking for their equivalent of Regency Palace / Grand Central in terms of dim sum quality/selection/price.

Where's good in Richmond or DT Vancouver?

Kirin (By Richmond Centre)
Sea Harbour (By River Rock Casino)
The Deluxe Chinese Restaurant (on no. 3)

Try:
Empire (No 3)
Fisherman's (Aberdeen)
The Jade (Alexandra)

Avoid:
Dinesty
Tin Tin

Never had any good Chinese in DT Vancouver. Chinatown there is pretty bare these days. Almost everything decent is in Richmond now.

Dinesty in Aberdeen? Don't see any problems with them, had it 2 times within 6 months.

Curious to hear Xtrema's experience there to be avoiding there. Band-aid in xlb?

Dai Ting in Vancouver is pretty good. Straight up Kingsway but is bit of drive with traffic, but is really good.

agreed. DT van for Chinese and especially sushi is pointless. Over priced and trying too hard to reinvent it, or is tired.

Every time I go to van we stay in Richmond and pretty much stick to eating in richmond now.

Although I would rate sea harbour 'ok' by richmond standards (which is fantastic by alberta standards), I would say there is a long list of places at least as good as there. The one perk was it was pretty dead when I went there last month.

Not sure what's wrong with dinesty (i'm going to guess shitty service?), but IMO the food was good when I was last there (2 years ago?); I'd be happy to go there again, but there are so many places in richmond we like trying new ones. The only restaurant I consistently revisit is chef hung.

My rule is if it's within a block of no 3 road, it's pretty safe, because there are so many good restaurants near that road that any shithole that tries to open up is going to go out of business pretty fast.

my favourite place in van for dim sum is Western Lake.

Kirin is good for dinner, never had a chance to go in for dim sum cause its always so packed.

Fisherman's is decent. price is decent also.

Sea Harbour is great for dinner. Can't comment on dim sum either.

The fallback for me in Richmond is SSW

I find there stuff is only ok. The one in Aberdeen, I had shitty service and loud as fuck (even more so than typical Chinese joint). The one on Robson is better environment but food is still average. Like Sun's or Pebble Street average.

I'm a big xlb snobs tho (or general Shanghai style cuisine), and there are not many shops I like in NA for xlb.

If anyone is looking for Shanghai food, there is none better/more authentic in Canada than Shanghai River in Richmond. Unfortunately, I only had dinner there. Would like to try xlb there if I had a chance.

There's a Din Tai Fung in Markham ON. Haven't been there but I'm assuming the XLB quality is comparable to the locations in Taiwan.

Dim Sum - Cantonese for tricking Gweilo into eating chicken feet with fancy names like "Phoenix Claws".
