Shipping my own wheels from the US to CA

I have bought new rims and tires in the US and put them on the car to drive back to Canada. I am having the tire shop ship my rims back to Canada. What is the best way to ship to avoid any charges. Gift? Since these are my original rims there will be no cost associated with these. I would assume just shipping charges and no brokerage fees?

Did you pay taxes on your new tires and rims when you crossed the border? If you didn't you'd get in sh*t if you told them what you did.

I bet they would have a hard time believing that a set of wheels is a "gift". If you didn't pay tax on the new ones, id personally pay taxes on the old ones just to make your life easier.

I did pay taxes on the new wheels and tires and have a receipt from tire shop. I plan on claiming the new wheels and tires at the border and am fully prepared to pay the GST on the new ones. I'm just wondering how the border will treat my original wheels if I am shipping something I previously paid for in Canada.

My original wheels are 2 years old and well used. They were purchased with the vehicle in Canada. I just want to ship the stock wheels back to me in Canada.

Why?

Used items don't get charged tax or duty... you all are being weird about this.

The biggest thing is, OP needs to ship them. If the shipment originates from a shop or business, there would be a chance I suppose.

I don't know about you guys but I have always been charged duty and tax on used items.

Maybe ship them back claiming them as being repaired? I'm not sure how that works.

It sounds like a lot of hassle honestly. Last wheels and tires I bought from the US, I just got shipped to the border and made a Saturday run down to Sweetgrass to bring them home.

If the tires are shot, get them removed, only bring back rims... if still don't fit, ship back via usps and skip the brokerage nonsense... if quote is too high, then talk to a local shop here and see if they can receive them with their freight account, or at least their heavily discounted commercial shipping account... maybe work something out that you'll buy and mount new tires with them if they help you get them up here

I ship tons of used items back and forth across the border for the past 12 years, never gotten charged tax or duty.

Again, on a CLEARLY used item. Use rims and tires are pretty easy to distinguish from new ones :dunno:

I have taken the rubber off the rims. Can tell pretty easily they are used. Do you have to declare them used when you ship them?

Thnx, I was thinking that I could inform them the rims will be coming at a later date.
