If you were to buy a car right now, and sell it in a year and be willing to lose up to 20,000 in the year you've driven it (while putting on maybe 5000-10,000km on it), what would you choose? Or maybe drive it for 2 years and let it depreciate 30k...

2008+ 997?
3-4 year old M3?
A fun roadster for the summer?

Curious what you guys would do!

That's a lot.

Any 997 shouldn't depreciate that much at all.

You could probably get a 991 within that budget. Easily.

If you have a 20k/year budget for a car just lease something?

How much was it new though? unless you paid over 80k you cant expect that big of a hit unless you buy anything Land rover:poosie:

15-20k loss in 1 year is huge but totally doable lol

This. If you picked up maxboost's turbo, you probably could've broken even after a year.

Just buy a $5K vehicle. Drive it off road like you stole it until it's done.
More fun and you only spent $5k.

But since he's specifically asking about $20k in depreciation....

Buy a $5k vehicle, and spend $20k on a ricer bodykit

As mentioned, $20k is a ton of depreciation for 1 year, especially on a used car.
With that said, most fun vehicles are not going to depreciate that much; rather, they would hold their value pretty well.

But then list on kijiji for $22K. Place the obligatory: "Upgrades are worth over $35K, can easily part it out for that" in the ad.

20K depreciation, maybe at 2016 C63 AMG

Don't think a 2015 M3 will come down that much in a year or a 997

Panamera 4S. That's about ~$20K/year for the 1st 4 years.

Pretty much any ~$100K car should fit the bill.

A brand new Porsche 911 (base + PDK) is what I would get. And you probably wouldn't even lose $20K in a year. You could probably even get a better one like the 4S and lot lose more than $20K.

Isn't that like $24k depreciation tho, surely ruins the value of your initial $5k car haha!

Well, ok so maybe the target should be 10-15k, with room to 20k if the right car comes along.

I've never had a really nice/fun car... have always spent a very, very conservative figure on a vehicle as I live in downtown and walk to work every day.

Who knows, maybe it's an early mid-life crisis, or maybe the SO moved in earlier this year and I need something that can get away from the 'nest' really quickly if needed :burnout:

Anyway, figure it's time to spend some of those pennies I've been pinching so hard... was looking at 997 turbos, actually pinged max_boost but got bogged down with work, and didn't have a 2nd parking stall at the time.

What do you think of the pricing on this one? Big fan of the color, pretty subtle... would've been nice if it were a 4S, but can't seem to find too many around. And how many kms on a 991 turbo would you guys think is suspect?

Can't comment on pricing but :hitit: that's a gorgeous car/colour. I think I am in love. It just needs a ducktail and it would be perfect.
